Product Review: Trader Joe’s Dal Makhani

I was home alone a couple weeks ago, and spent most of the week just eating what was in the fridge and freezer. I am pretty good at throwing together yummy meals with what we have on hand. However, after a 40 mile bike ride on Sunday, I needed something quick, easy, filling and tasty. I headed to Trader Joe’s to wander around until something struck me.

I stumbled upon a section of Indian food and it sounded perfect. I knew I had Naan bread in the freezer, so all I needed was this:

Dal Makhani. A black lentil and red kidney bean mixture with Indian spices. It was so easy to fix. I just placed the package in a pot of boiling water for about 5 minutes, heated the Naan bread in the oven for two minutes, and quickly steamed a couple cups of spinach in the microwave.

This was so yummy and a perfect meal for after a long bike ride when I am starving but too tired to spend much time in the kitchen. I might have to grab some of these to keep on hand. I don’t like to rely on meals like this, but it is nice to have some options on hand when I am in a pinch.

    Where do you buy Naan?

I agree. I love Indian food, and this rivals the Makhani Dal that you’d buy at an Indian restaurant. Absolutely delicious, and so good that it’s hard to stop at eating just one serving (2 servings per package).
