The airline is planning to expand its operation to Philippine with Joint venture with Philippine Airline. The planned partnership is 60: 40, where AirAsia is taking 40% of the investment. According to Tony Fernandes, Thai AirAsia will be more aggressive in its expansion between Thailand and India. The Indonesia counterpart will focus on international routes and improving the hubbings in Bali and Surabaya.

A Malaysia newspaper report AIRASIA has stopped direct flights from Penang to Chennai in China. It is not known whether this move was done due to financial reason or political move. Penang is under the opposition government. AirAsia is also known to stop flight, the like of it stopping the rural air services when it turned to be not profitable.

Looking at the onset of expansion in the airline industry, more vacancy are expected to be made available.
