  3. 4 Nami July 3, 2009 at 12:04 am

I keep attempting to update my Rogers Branded E71-2 with a reflashed product code… but it keeps saying Software update failed once it goes to download the update. It won’t start…

Anyone know if this has something to do with my product code or what?

    Thanks for any help!

I tried the same, then downloaded NAVIFIRM, and checked the new version, it says US but unlike vesion 200 it does not say NAM. I checked all codes for version 300 and non is for E71-2 NAM, the one avalable for the flashed code we used for 200 earlier is E71-2 NAM US, while this one is E71-2 US only, the 210 is ARGENTENA, … nice info you get from NAVIFIRM.

    • 6 Daniel Serodio July 10, 2009 at 5:42 pm

I’m experiencing this same problem, except mine is originally unbranded NAM (PC 0569371) and I changed it to 0559585 (generic) so I could update to v200.xx firmware…

  4. 7 pkj July 3, 2009 at 2:30 am

Any idea about the release notes.

upgraded last night but don’t know what changed yet.

  5. 8 Paul Hedderly July 3, 2009 at 7:06 am

OOoh have they fixed bluetooth yet… please please please!!!

  6. 9 Paul Hedderly July 3, 2009 at 7:06 am

Please say they’ve fixed bluetooth which is the biggest let down of the whole device. (anyone got a Jawbone prime to stay connected for more than a few minutes?)

    • 10 Dexter July 3, 2009 at 7:50 am

Well, right after flashing the phone I had some problems with pairing and synchronizing the phone, but N86 was doing the same so maybe it was rather a problem of Vista SP2 – new “enhanced” Bluetooth manager, or new PC Suite.

      Waiting for your comments.

    • 11 Chris July 26, 2009 at 8:48 am

After a clean firmware update, Prime works ok mostly with E71. However, after email setup, Seven and a few applications installed, Prime doesn’t properly stay connected with E71… Gosh!

  7. 13 sekwenton July 3, 2009 at 7:37 am

there are facebook and myspace apps, i lost several apps…

    • 14 Dexter July 3, 2009 at 7:47 am

Yes, I have found (useless for me) MySpace and Facebook inside as well. As usual even full backup to the memory card doesn’t give all apps running. No Nimbuzz, no Nokia Messaging (fortunately it is build-in and I like the way it recognizes your account already registered in the system).

I hope it will be more stable as lately I have observed few crashed, which I could connect to any particular application.

Please be aware that your Blog is a global empire. You owe it to your readers to make sure the details posted here pertain to the target market. This upgrade (as discovered at E71Blog) is ONLY for te European Version. It will NOT be available for the North American version until further notice.

Please be aware you have readers in many markets that the E71 serves. Otherwise…keep up the great work

    • 17 Dexter July 3, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Hey, Thanks for the comment Shawn P.

Indeed I haven’t realized about my blog impact zone 🙂 As usual new firmware is not available for all markets, countries and variants in the same time. I know it may cause some frustration for the people checking NSU and not seeing software available for beloved phones. It’s even harder in case of operator’s customized phones, getting update usually even later.

Maybe it will be helpful if people would share here, which phone variant they have and telling if SW update is possible to be downloaded already.

Hope you all will have your E71 properly flashed. I have already mine.

      • 18 Nami July 3, 2009 at 4:12 pm

That’s not entirely true. I can see the update with my North American E71. It has been discovered by a couple of users on the E71 forums that the server where the NSU pulls the update from here in North America, is missing one of the update files.

So it continually corrupts the update. Otherwise, it is installable on the NAM version from my understanding. Currently, a lot of people on the forums are awaiting Nokia to address their server issues for North America so that we can receive the update as well. =)

  9. 19 muhadi July 3, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Does HelloOX hack work after update. please inform

  10. 20 mdevji July 4, 2009 at 1:07 am

I updated my E71 fw to the 210… sometime back. Before doing so backed up my phone etc. Once installed all worked fine. As soon as I restored from backup had the following issue with browsing using WLAN, got the following error msg:

WLAN connection already active close it and try again

Nothing I could do would make the WLAN work so I had to start from scratch with the phone. Not a problem as the phone was fairly new.

So I go ahead and update the firmware again today to 300… and again backup etc. After install all works fine but of course when I restore from backup same error. I tried restoring everything except setting and it works fine, but as soon as I restore settings same problem. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do? If this is going to be the case everytime then its a problem upgrading.

    Any ideas???

  11. 21 butcherboy July 4, 2009 at 7:46 pm

having the same “software updater has attempted to connect 3 times” error that i’m seeing here & there online. tried a bunch of proposed fixes but none has worked…wondering if that’s related to Nami’s suggestion that there’s something wrong with the North American servers?

I’ve seen a variety of solutions online to no avail. among them:
    restarting computer
    restarting phone
selecting “general” profile (or “normal” on e71)
    turn off Internet Connection Sharing
    run NSU in Compatibility Mode
    turn off Aero Glass
    make IE default browser
    disable antivirus software
    disable firewall
    disable Offline Mode in IE
    quit all other running apps
shut down all Nokia apps, plug in phone, THEN start NSU

that’s all i can remember. anyway, none of it has worked. also saw a post that maybe Nokia’s servers are just down.

    any thoughts?

    • 22 Nami July 7, 2009 at 2:13 am

      Hi Butcher,

Yeah, I’ve found a lot of people in North America that are unable to do this update. Try googling “E71 300.21.012 fail” and there are a lot of threads that come up regarding issues with NAM updates.

Also, I didn’t see it mentioned on here yet, but no one has been able to find a changelog for the v300 firmware yet. The one that is posted on the Nokia download page (linked on this site) is for the old firmware, v200.

All the features that it mentions, mail, music and other improvements have all been available since the previous update.

As far as myself being able to get this update, I still haven’t been able to do so. Server just won’t accept connection. A couple of people on Howard’s forums in North America have found a work around, but it has a high potential of bricking your phone!

    • 23 Jon July 8, 2009 at 2:57 am

I am having the same issue as @butcherboy. Getting the “Nokia Software Updater has attempted to connect to the internet” failure message.

Found a few posts with some additional info:

      – Dutch translation of a page where a user gets around the error by allowing Vista to run some sort of update:

      http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fgathering.tweakers.net%2Fforum%2Flist_messages%2F1323197%2F30&sl=auto&tl=en&history_state0=

I ran all available Vista updates, with no luck.

      – User runs WireShark network traffic analyzer tool to find that the response from the Nokia servers is that it can’t find the file specified:

      http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?p=426835

The second post (which seems more relveant to our problem) seems to indicate that this is perhaps a problem on Nokia’s end with the firmware itself. Some device codes don’t seem to show the update yet, so perhaps there indeed is some sort of NAM variant version where the new firmware is being incorrectly handled in Nokia’s database?

I’ve tried everything you’ve tried as well, to no avail. I’ve tried on multiple computers, running Win XP and Vista, running different antivirus/firewall software (of course having disabled them), and still get the problem.

Unfortunately it seems we’re at the mercy of Nokia. Please post any updates…

  12. 24 Marc July 5, 2009 at 6:25 am

Unluckily this and the last firmware release is still not available for my phone (product code 0570526).
I bought the phone from Amazon Germany 😦

I’m very unhappy about the product support of nokia….

  13. 25 George July 5, 2009 at 9:07 am

The upgrade is available in Asia, at least for Singapore. I just upgraded last night and also “lost” a few programs as well. Have noticed that it’s faster now then before in terms of switching menus.

  14. 26 Rob July 5, 2009 at 9:41 am

FW 300 turned my E71 into a slomo. It is a nightmare. Don’t update unless you have a particular serious reason to do so.

  15. 27 Hermann July 5, 2009 at 4:59 pm

Not yet compatible with Mobile TV Receiver SU-33W??

  19. 31 Dave July 9, 2009 at 1:53 am

    Hi,

I have an E71 and tried to download rev 300.??? of firmware last night and the latest downloader said 300 was available however, when I went to download it couldn’t find the internet.

Tonight 7/8/09 I tried to do it again and rev 300 wasn’t available! Only 200.???

I wouldn’t care but when I was using internet radio it asked for an upgrade and I said YES!!! BIG MISTAKE!!!!! The update killed the feature. The only way it can run is for me to remove the memory card from the phone.

I called up Nokia tech support and they said the only way to fix it is to send it in for repair!!!?????

I asked them about rev 300 and they didn’t have a clue!

    NOKIA PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to wait to see if rev 300 is made available AFTER Nokia obviously fixes the software.

TOTAL CRAP SUPPORT FOR THE PHONE!!!!

    Dave

Does anyone know when v300 will be released to the Australian Market on 3 Network

  21. 33 ken July 11, 2009 at 2:16 am

    hi,
i just updated my phone to the latest firmware n so far so good, with just one downside, the damn phone can’t be switched off. Everytime i select the switch off option, it just reboots. i guess nokia really wants to make this phone work harder for us, no breaks, continue workinggg

  22. 34 Dave July 11, 2009 at 5:23 pm

Nokia really sucks !!!! The haven’t published new e71-firmware for 8 months now (Product code 0570526)

Many thinks ar broken on this phone…..

  23. 35 Pramod July 12, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Hey all – I updated my firmware from 200.x to 300 . its been a mixed bag till now. At the first thought, i personally felt that the phone is a little faster and does not hang that much. I had a particular problem is phone hanging once in a day or two but that hasnt happned in last 6 days (hopefully the great Mr Murphy does not hear this ).

Apart from that the downside was it wiped out all my data, app’s and everything and it failed to back up from the memory card. I had to use the comp and pc suite to push all the data and app back to the phone.

As they have been talking in most of the sites, the camera is a tad better . I hope they put a new feature of using the side volume buttons and the select for easy usage during the web mode.

There was something funny after the update, one particular app on my phone was trying to connect to internet all the while. I was on an install spree, i guess it was one of the google app’s. Wonder if its the update or one of the apps.

Overall, its a worthwhile update , makes the phone more stable at the best.

    Cheers
    Pramod

    Hello!
I have an e71, with a 100.xx FW…. I can’t use the 3G networks… When I configure the network on “dual”, the phone detects the 3G network with full signal… but I can’t make any calls or use the internet. When I try to call the phone shows a “network error” message…. Then, when I switch the network configuration from “dual” to “GSM” all works perfect: I can make calls and connect to the internet…
Does anyone have a similar problem?? Thanks!

  25. 37 Ma July 14, 2009 at 4:47 am

I upgraded my device’s firmware a few minutes ago. I’m trying to switch it on for last 15 minutes but the device just won’t switch on. WTF???!?!?!

Any ideas or I need to throw it in garage(Nokia Care)?

  26. 38 Tf July 14, 2009 at 7:21 am

I’ve just updated and restored my phone.
But the built in Browser closes right after you open it.
Also the Moppler, Youtube and Skyfire app crash when connecting to the internet.
does anyone know what’s the problem here?

  27. 39 ArunKumar July 15, 2009 at 8:06 am

I updated my Nokia E71, after the update everything is fine except my Music Player, I am unable to update the libraries. I am locked on now. You cannot new musics or delete. I dont know how come such a major which was working beofre could fail. I am waiting for another release.

If you guys are really concerned about the music player then dont upgrade your firmware. I dont have anyother choice now.

    • 40 ArunKumar July 21, 2009 at 8:27 am

Is there any workaround to restore or anyother application through which I can hear my musics.

  28. 41 RonLester July 16, 2009 at 4:04 am

After updating to the latest V300 fw my music player’s equalizer setting and loudness control don’t have any affect when using headsets or headphones. Anyone here has noticed that? Is there anyway I can reinstall the music player just in case?

  29. 42 CYPHERC July 16, 2009 at 8:02 pm

Dexter why dont u make a poll asking if we should or should not upgrade to 300x,

    Nice Blog.

  30. 43 palimadra July 18, 2009 at 7:05 am

Is there a download that I can download first and then using the update software install the update from the downloaded file?

I need to do that as the Internet connection and speed sucks and it is a pain in the **** when the Internet gets disconnected when while the update is on.

    Thanks in advance.

  31. 45 Daniel Serodio July 20, 2009 at 1:36 pm

There is an alternate (untested) method which is using Navifirm to download the firmware and then using Nokia Care Suite to install it.

However, this firmware has been pulled from the Nokia site, so I decided to wait a little more for this update.

  32. 46 Stephane July 21, 2009 at 10:31 am

Indeed, the equalizer does not work with the last update. This is a major issue for me! How could it be possible???

  33. 47 Prosenjitz July 21, 2009 at 5:48 pm

    Hi all,

I just cann’t decide whether to update or not.PLEASE Help!

In my last update to v. 210.21.006 I was immensely benefited with much faster browser speed etc.

But this time I am more interested in Camera performance improvement! Please let me know if there is any noticeable and worthy improvement in Camera Performance like vanishing of purple tint, low light image quality improvement etc.

And also if there is any other significant improvement in performance!

    Thanks a lot in advance!

  34. 48 TJ July 22, 2009 at 7:45 am

  35. 49 drklin July 23, 2009 at 8:42 pm

rather no, becouse they are crap, i have still no update at all, i posese phone something like 8 months or frome the release so i dont think so.
The best buy unlocked phone next time, and go sim only in tmobile.

  36. 51 Lucie-Müller July 29, 2009 at 11:51 pm

Sometimes it’s really that simple, isn’t it? I feel a little stupid for not thinking of this myself/earlier, though.

  37. 52 youda July 31, 2009 at 10:05 am

This update and the last one made a perfect phone crappy…. I am now trying to look for a used one with no updates……. what is nokia doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. 53 shveta August 4, 2009 at 7:58 pm

update just wouldn’t download! updates suck bigtime!

  39. 54 Lukas August 13, 2009 at 12:58 pm

oh damn…after i read the comments i will not update my phone ^^

  40. 55 Chris August 13, 2009 at 2:03 pm

Is there anyone know, if the 100.XXX.XXX firmware works fine with Jawbone Prime?

  41. 56 Person August 14, 2009 at 3:37 pm

The internet radio app is now pretty much impossible to enjoy, it reboots my phone often, usually when loading a different stream. If you are happy to listen to one station only you will probably be alright but start browsing and a reboot is guaranteed.

  42. 57 Shashank Sharma August 17, 2009 at 2:59 am

    Hello all and hell Nokia,
Upgraded to the new firmware…and everytime I upgrade i have this feeling that Nokia is moving more and more on the lines of Micro$oft.i.e. Let the users test and suffer. I mean how can they roll out a firmware update that, Iam sure, was not QC’ed. Here are some notes that will help users decide whether to update to this so called 300.xx:
    1. The camera improvements are none, you’ll still have the same purple haze on your pics and the same freaked out horror night shots. The ones who are saying there are camera improvements, please check for this.
    2. Audio player has been taken for a royal ride, Iam listening to a non-equaliser friendly phone. For gods’ake Nokia, you should take you tech dept for a ride…there are better people sitting worldwide without jobs. This implies to headphone connection only. No equaliser, no loudness effect, and no widening…now thats Radio.
    3. Internet connectivity became faster after the second update that was being rolled out, and Nokia has succesfully realised their mistake it seems. Folks, be prepared for a snailing connectivity.
    4. Certain qwerty mappings have been rectified…but this only implies to a handfull facing trouble post second update.
    5. Syncing is happening fine, so people facing trouble should check their internal setting. Though iam unsure of any divastation that might have happened to some species. Please re-check in my opinion.
    6. The UI remains unchanged, i dunno what changes are they talking about in the changelog.
Its day 3 since update and i agree with one user here quoting that the last two firmwares have indeed made a perfect phone crappy.
For the ones updating, i would suggest don’t.

  43. 58 Shashank Sharma August 17, 2009 at 6:15 am

Off-topic but does anybody have any insight on the e72?

  44. 59 Mayank August 17, 2009 at 10:09 am

OK. If anyone wants to do the update, I’d suggest hammering instead.

Updating will give yo nothing but a phone that doesn’t work. I updated on 13th, successfully finishes, but then it won’t turn on. I’ve sent it to BS nokia care”less” and it’s been already a month.

    I won’t ever buy a NOKIA”SHIT” again!

  45. 60 Shashank Sharma August 20, 2009 at 3:21 am

    Hello folks,
Update: The internet connection seems just about working fine now, post one week. Seems my network operator was on some maintainance due to which it seemed snailing. So apologies and yes -1 prob from the list.
The radio app is working fine…no reboots for me even on changing stations. Surprisingly this time it even synced all my fav station’ which it didn’t last time.

  46. 61 Shveta August 25, 2009 at 1:56 pm

seems nokia had cleared all the issues… I updated recently n all things worked unlike mentioned here…
Camera worked just as bad…. but stable radio, mobbler etc etc

  47. 62 Shashank Sharma August 27, 2009 at 2:26 am

ehhh…Everything working fine? The music player too:-|?? Did u try using your headset and then changing the equaliser settings? It’ll change but please note any difference in sound. If you manage to hear a change…well, you lucky then.

    • 63 Gihan October 2, 2009 at 3:57 am

i too noticed that the equalizer of Music Player that comes with the nokia doesnt change after the upgrade. It sounds good but i want to customize it but its not possible.

Also i have had problems with a call lag when u answer calls. There is like a two second gap. The worst part is calls from home rarely are answerable. It rings… i’d pickup but here no voice from the other end and it wud cut off. Nokia should fix this problem.

Third problem is the internet connection keeps disconnecting even with full signal. In some cases it doesnt connect at all. I had it confirmed with the mobile service provider that the connection was ok at their end so its a problem with this new firmware upgrade.

Also the phone hangs up during some internet sessions and calls. Theres free memory on the phone drive (50MB) and 1GB on the memory card so i think its a memory handling issue.

  48. 64 ArunKumar September 11, 2009 at 8:22 am

I tried updating my Nokia E71, it said your phone is upto date. I dont know how to reset it to previous version. Will giving it to Nokia CARE will help.

  49. 65 gzepeda September 16, 2009 at 3:58 pm

I have an e-71 with version 200.21.118. After running the updater program it finds version 300.21.012 but it fails when I want to run the update to the phone: Software update failed, has failed more than three times, bla bla bla.

    Any ideas?

  50. 66 Daniel Serodio September 16, 2009 at 6:53 pm

You can find instructions on updating to 300.21.012 here: http://moov4.net/node/83

  51. 67 thebellboys September 16, 2009 at 8:03 pm

has anyone yet found a good reason to update to v3? seems like it’s far too much trouble for little or no benefit, with quite a few possible drawbacks.

    any thoughts?

  52. 68 Edmond September 21, 2009 at 7:46 am

This update is _still_ not available for my phone 😦 (Code 0569803)

Wonder if it’s ever going to be released..? 😦

  53. 69 Daniel Serodio September 21, 2009 at 9:59 pm

I found the v300 firmware more stable then the previous one… Mine used to spontaneously boot once at least once a week, and now it’s much better in this respect.

  54. 70 butcherboy September 29, 2009 at 5:34 pm

OK, so i finally decided to give it another try, since for every negative story there seems to be a positive one online–and i would assume that most people having a positive experience wouldn’t bother jumping online to comment.

HOWEVER, neither 0569371 nor 0559585 seem to be updatable to 300 anymore. based on a thread on the Nokia Support site (http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=communicators&thread.id=48100&view=by_date_ascending&page=2), it looks like they’ve pulled the update and now have reverted to v200.

don’t suppose anyone has any further insight?

  55. 73 Yagya October 5, 2009 at 7:04 pm

    Hi all,
I am updating my E71 from last 3 hrs from V100.XXX to V300.XXX

After reading yours comment over this new version from nokia, Is it safe to update my version?? Please share your experience

  56. 74 Yagya October 5, 2009 at 7:08 pm

    Hi All,
After reading yours comment on new firmware version from Nokia for E71, i am little confused…..

    1) Should i update my E71 with new version 300.XXX from 100.XXX
    2) I am trying to update my version and its almost 4 hrs, its still updating the version…. does it take so long to update version? Did it took the same time for you all
    3) Please share your experience with New Version 300.XXX

    • 75 Daniel Serodio October 7, 2009 at 6:39 pm

Which software are you using to update? Nokia Software Updater? I could only update to v300 using Nokia Care Suite (aka NCS). The whole process took less than an hour, but I had already downloaded the firmware files.

      • 76 yagya October 7, 2009 at 8:30 pm

For what it’s worth, I finally decided to try the update again, and this time it worked. Now running v300.

Haven’t had any issues at all yet, and the phone does seem a bit zippier–but that could easily be due to simply having a fresh install of everything. I do agree with many posters that the Facebook “widget” is a bit of a joke, particularly if you use an alternative browser such as Opera (which I do).

    But so far no complaints!

After having used my 1st E71 for at least a year, suddenly problems occured. Calls were disturbed, closed and sounds like aliens on dope came through the speaker. RM-346 Firmware 200.xxx Vodafone ger.
I received a new phone by my provider and everything seemed fine, except: one button did not work. Firmware 300.21.012. Handy changed again.
Now the wifi-connection will not work however. I tried to setup several times with all the same result: phone seems to hang and wifi-connection cannot be reseted except when turning off the phone.

I am pretty annoyed right now…

      Hi,

Update: Another exchange was done yesterday and I just restored all my personal data without any settings from former firmware 200. After having set my WiFi on visible (inside my router) the connection works well.

But honestly: I lost the satisfaction with that phone…

    Hello Folks;-).
Updated to v.400.21.013, and this time its via OVI Suite that cam as an update to the regular PC Suite. The UI seems fancy, but worked fine for me. However Iam yet to check if Nokia managed to roll back the changes it made to the music player during last update. Rest all seems to be working fine.
There’s an update for maps too, v3.0 that is. And another good news that Nokia seems to have bought down the subscription rates down to about half. Moreover, theres an option of subscribing just FOR A DAY @ Rs.90 something. Hurrray!
Camera, well…frankly I’ve lost any hopes and I don’t think it can get sorted with any FW update. All other 3rd party apps like emoze, Energy Pro, World mate etc. are working fine too. There were mentions on other forums regarding poor performance post update…I guess thats not in my case, not even while multi-tasking. So,overall this update seems to be pretty fine, atleast if you were anyways snailing on 300.xx. Strongly recommended!!
P.S.: If you guys plan to update via OVI Suite, Please keep in mind to take a regular back-up via PC SUITE. The back-up that OVI does while installing new update on your phone IS NOT THE COMPLETE ONE. Infact, I would suggest if you stick to the traditional method of updating via NSU and backing and restoring via PC SUITE.

After reading about many issues with Bluetooth, mine is different. It won’t turn on or activate at all. Also, the regular radio won’t tune or play. Yes, using the supplied earphone for anntena. Everything else works great. Running V200. Plan on sending to Nokia repair. Didn’t see anyone else with similar issues.

Made the jump to v400 now, and only noticed one oddity: I’m getting occasional complete lockups now. It’s infrequent, but I only remember getting one or two in the past year and half, and I’ve had maybe 3 since updating to v4.

I have a tendency to leave Opera Mini (4.2) and Free-iSMS running, but like I said, never a problem before.

Anyone else having a similar issue?
