Post a pic of a ship you made, and I'll give you some constructive crits [though some ships *rabies* may need to be totally redone]...

I'll start with my own ships, the ones I like the least or have problems with:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee21 ... ipbeta.jpg

ok, well these two weren't even MEANT to be permanent ships. They are going to be completely redone, either by aeonic or myself. Anyways, they lack detail, and are very bland and too smooth.
These are just too poor to critique constructivly.

I'll either redo this, or make a new one.
Anyways, for having been done on vacation with a "craptop" using only one of those dumb touchpads (I hate those), it's not bad, but for being a passable ship, it's bad. It lacks details, I'd add some more color variation, especially to the main hull, engines, and either the back or front parts of the wings.

Well, its barely passable, but its not good at all either. It's too shiney, it should be slightly greyer and duller, to match the viking's hull. The engines don't match up with the current charon style, but the charon engines are easy to mimik, so that won't be hard to fix. It's sort of a bland ship design, and from the start a rather hard one to get right without using textures.

I have very obvious lighting problems in this one, not only that, but the hull is too dark, and the rotation is off-center (from the ship). Not hard to fix, but it IS a problem.

For the most part, its decent, but the back hull (engine pod) needs details and decor added to it, and possibly a little sprucing up to the EMP emitting "fins" along the spine.

This one is scedualed soon for a redo. Basically lop off the 4 outer pairs of crates on the corners, and give a sort of random altering of the coloration between dark brown and this brown to get it to match up with george's crates. The crates should also be a bit stubbier and duller too.

Ok, another to be redone (though I do intend to sooner or later redo practically all of these). First off, the hull should be armored, and given a different coloration scheme. The big solar panel wings should be given a bit more variation to break that large "pattern" that they form

Needs moar details. Nuff said.

it could also have done with a bit more details, but I lost the model while I was making it due to a BSOD, so it will not be done, and all I'm left with were these prototypes.

You can tell me how harsh you need me to be, ranging from gentle for the meek, to brutal for those who want to know everything that went wrong [even if it means having to scrap and redo the ship].

For many ships, including the Charon freighter a procedural texture would do wonders. Allmost everything is too shiny and some perlin noise would make them more matte.

A generic "plating" texture makes up for a lot of missing details, especially on plain surfaces. Look at a classic Star Destroyer sometime.

While there are a lot of little details on that ship, the top and bottom have huge slabs of no-detail. Those slabs, though, use a hull plating texture that makes them "feel" detailed.

:D

ok, I found the lazy man's way of applying textures :P

I guess I'll be going back and redoing a few various ships :D
