Above we have two more self-portraits by Takashi Murakami for New Day!!
This image is a drawing from a project two years ago but holds new significance in the wake of the hardships currently being faced by Japan. It depicts the mythological Karajishi or “China lion” on a bridge of human skulls. According to legend, the cubs which can be seen frolicking about on the bridge would be thrown off a cliff by their parents, with only the strongest surviving to become guardians of the spiritual realm. The work speaks to the power of resilience and stoicism in the face of hardship.
