Doug’s Place is one of the two main breakfast/brunch restaurants in Castro Valley (the other being JD’s).  It’s conveniently located in the Lucky’s Plaza on Castro Valley Blvd and Redwood Rd.

We came here after Melody’s dance class show, which also happened to be the same weekend as Joyce and Joyce’s Mom’s birthdays.  This was the opportune time to go because it was after most of the packed brunch crowd had finished.  Since Doug’s Place frequently caters to families, they had crayons and white paper placemats ready for the kids.

I ordered the eggs benedict, which was drenched with melted cheese as you can see in the below picture.  It was a pretty big dish with the hash browns and fresh fruit.

Melody ordered six mini pancakes which were light and fluffy.

Emily ordered scrambled eggs (one of her favorites), toast, and fresh fruit which was plenty for her.

Uncle Bakkie and Auntie Bonnie ordered French Toast which came on a ginormous platter and was loaded with food.  Joyce had scrambled eggs, toast, homestyle potatoes, and hash browns.  I forgot what Joyce’s mom had.

Service was pretty good as we were seated quickly, water was refilled, and requested utensils were given.  You bring the check up front to the cash register to pay.  Drawings by kids line the bottom counter of the half-open kitchen and the walls along the cash register station.  There’s also plenty of parking since it’s in the Lucky’s Plaza.  I’m not sure about the bathroom situation as I didn’t go.  Some of the decor is a bit dated, but you can tell it’s a family place that has successfully served many generations.
