Project ECHO: Complex medical care in rural areas

An article in the May issue of Health Affairs, Partnering Urban Academic Medical Centers And Rural Primary Care Clinicians To Provide Complex Chronic Disease Care, provides a look at an innovative program in New Mexico (Project ECHO: Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) that connects specialists at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque with primary care clinicians in underserved areas, so that they can deliver complex specialty care to patients with chronic diseases, including hepatitis C, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS.
