Thanksgiving Fun

Thanksgiving break is here and it won’t be long until the kids are “bored”. Here are a few fun Thanksgiving activities brought to us by the companies who help us make our Thanksgiving dinner.

High 5 November Meeting Reminder

Tonight the November High 5 meeting will be in the Community Room at 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. We will hear from Mrs. Gerlach about a new reading program called Project More. Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there!

Basketball Raffle Tickets

If you would like a chance to support High 5 and have a chance to win $100 at each of the Parkway home boys basketball games, then High 5 has some fun in store for you.

How it does it work?
100 raffle tickets will be sold, numbered 00-99. The winning ticket is based on the final score of each of the 10 home varsity boys games. The first number of the winning ticket will be from Parkway’s last digit of the final score. The second number of the winning ticket will be the opposing team’s last digit of the final score. So, if the score is Parkway 79, Ft. Recovery 63, the winning ticket holder would be 93.

How many times can I win?
There will be a $100 winner for each of the home games. A ticket may win multiple time.

Where can I buy tickets?
Tickets will be sold at the Pizza Preview on Friday, November 19th, in the elementary office until the first home boys game and the night of the first home varsity boys game.

How much are tickets?
Tickets are $20 each. If all 100 tickets are sold, $10 from each ticket will go to High 5. Thank you for your support.

BTFE Reading Room

Last week I posted about the eBoxtops that Boxtops for Education (BTFE) offered through their marketplace. Today we have $4 earned through the marketplace. That is the equivalent of 40 boxtops!

The Reading Room is sponsored by Barnes & Nobles. They offer 6 boxtops for every $10 spent. All have to do is log in at btfe.com, go to the Reading Room, and follow the link to Barnes & Noble. For instance, if you were going to buy a $12 book, Parkway would get 6 eBoxtops or 60¢. If you were going to purchase the Nook for $149, Parkway would get $8.40.

On a separate note, Thanksgiving is approaching fast and I thought that kids might enjoy coloring this fun sheet. Keep on clippin’!

Educational Music Website

New York Philharmonic KidzoneIf you want to have some music fun with your kids, you might want to check out the New York Philharmonic kidszone. It is filled with music games. One of my favorites is Instrument Frenzy. Kids see an instrument, decide if it is a woodwind, brass, string, or percussion and then hear what sound it makes. Believe it or not, my high school students enjoy these games too.

You can also go in to the other “rooms”  in the KidZone. For instance, in the Instrument Lab you can make your own instruments and in the Composition Workshop you can make your own music.

2011 Carnival Plans Begin

Parkway Elementary 2010 Spring Carnival

Parkway Elementary 2010 Spring Carnival

High 5 is pleased to announce the 2011 Parkway Elementary Spring Carnival will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011.

The 2010 Carnival beat all of our expectations in attendance and community involvement. So many people gave us support in terms of sponsors, making and running the games and stands, and families who attended. We hope to add to the fun this year with more games and more prizes. This year we are trying to add more “destination” prizes, for example entrance to a ball game or a museum . If you have a connection with a group that might be willing to donate a prize of any kind , please contact parkwayhigh5@gmail.com. Formal sponsorship request letters will be mailed soon.

High 5 meets the fourth Monday of the month from 6:30 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Parkway. Everyone is welcome to attend meetings.

Earn eBoxtops at the BTFE Marketplace

Parkway Elementary students, parents, teachers, staff and community members submitted and clipped 10,400 Boxtops. Great things can happen when everyone works together for a common goal.

But, most of us only have certain number of items that we are going to buy that have a Boxtop on it. If my kids did the shopping, we would have stacks of food that were never on a shopping list… just because it had extra Boxtops. Maybe you have heard this plea at the grocery… “But, Mom, it has 3 Boxtops on it”!

Did you know that you can earn more Boxtop points for Parkway (called eBoxtops) when you shop online too? Stores such as Macys, Lands End, Barnes & Noble, Hearth Song, Oriental Trading, Hanna Anderson and dozens more have teamed up with Boxtops for Education and will give a percentage of your purchase to Parkway. For instance, if you spend $10 with Landsend.com, they will award Parkway 2 Boxtops.

If you go to the BTFE website you can see the entire list. All you need to do is sign up with them, pick Parkway Elementary as your school, and follow their link when you shop.

Boxtops for Education Update

This October there were 10,400 Boxtops for Education collected by parents, submitted by students, and clipped by High 5 members! All of this teamwork raised  $1092. 10! It is a lot of snipping and clipping –  but it sure makes cents!Thank you to everyone for all of your hardwork.  We will be having another collection contest at the end of the second nine weeks.

Parkway High 5 receives Parent Group of the Year – Honorable Mention

At the October High 5 meeting, Mr E. presented the news and framed certificate from PTO Today that Parkway High 5 was named a Parent Group of the Year –  Honorable Mention! Mrs. Fisher brought in a beautifully decorated Parkway cake to help us celebrate the occasion.

Earlier this year Mrs. Misty Bruns submitted a letter on our behalf. PTO Today named its top winners and honorable mention and Parkway High 5 was selected. You can see the entire list of winners here. Thank you Mrs. Bruns for taking time to write and submit your letter. Also, thank you to Mrs. Fisher and Mr. E for the cake and sticking around after the wonderful news to help us clip boxtops!
