Perfect Paws is a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization

1.  Why all the complex Adoption Guidelines?

While our guidelines may seem a bit strict, we are very serious about finding permanent homes for each of our treasured pets. We have found that when we are thorough, the pet has the best chances of finding their forever home. We love each and every one, and not only want them to be happy, loved and well-cared for in their new home, but we also wish the new family to be comfortable and pleased with their new family member. Therefore, we feel that all of these guidelines must be followed so our pets are a perfect match with their new parents and will become an integral part of a loving household. We believe that if your goals are the same as ours, you will fully understand the necessity for the process and be reassured that we are so thorough!

2.  Is all the information given on the adoptive pet true and accurate?

We do the very best we can to give as much information as possible on every pet.  The information is based on information given to us by the shelter, owner, or other rescue in which the pet comes from.  It is also based on observations from our veterinarian and our own observations while the pet is in our care.  To the best of our knowledge, our pets do not have any major health or behavioral issues.  It is however, impossible for Perfect Paws to know if future health or behavioral problems will arise.  Perfect Paws makes no warranties, or guarantees regarding the health, physical condition, or the temperament, of any adoptive pet.  It is equally impossible for Perfect Paws to know the exact breed of the pets.  Perfect Paws makes no guarantee on the breed stated in the pet posting.  This is merely a guess as to what the breed possibilities may be.

  3.  Why do you charge an Adoption Fee and how much will it cost?

We are often questioned about the adoption fees, rescue is very expensive. We are an all volunteer, completely non-profit organization. We have no corporate sponsorships - so Perfect Paws is run solely on monies obtained from our adoption fees, along with donations we receive from kind and generous people ... and our own pockets. Without the adoption fees, we would not be able to afford to continue to operate.

There are many, many costs incurred by our rescue.  Just some of these costs  are: shelter pull fees; supplies for the pets including food, bowls, toys, leashes, collars and chews; disinfectant, mops; towels and blankets; cages, crates, carriers and playpens ... and that's the short list! We give them the majority of the necessary vaccinations - including DHLPP and Bordetella (kennel cough) - which helps save on vet costs, BUT we still have to pay for the medication itself and the syringes to administer it. Then there is flea medication and heartworm preventative; vet charges for rabies vaccinations - which, by law, must be done by a licensed vet; as well as the surgery fees for spaying/neutering.  There are always unexpected, very high Emergency Vet costs for injuries and illnesses.  Gasoline to transport the pets. Pull fees we must pay to the shelters to save a pet. Paper for printing adoption agreements, printer ink, business cards ...and the list goes on.

Now that you know how the money from adoption fees is being used, we believe that you can now understand why we must charge the fees! They are the lifeblood of our rescue group - and we just literally could not afford to rescue all these wonderful pets and give them a chance at the great life with a loving family that they deserve. We appreciate your understanding and your support!! Our fees typically range from $150-$400 for dog/puppies.

 4.  Is there an adoption fee if the pet is already spayed/neutered and current on all vaccinations when it comes into the rescue?

Yes, there is. Again, Perfect Paws is solely operated on the monies obtained from the adoption fees and what few donations it receives.  We encounter several visits annually to the Northeast Indiana Emergency Vet Clinic.  Just one visit the this facility is very costly.  Collecting an adoption fee for pets that do not require any vetting services allows us to have a small cushion to be able to cover such emergency costs.  Yet again, Perfect Paws is a non-profit organization, meaning that monies coming into the orgainzation go back into sustaining the organization.

5.  What if the pet I adopt does not work out, can I obtain a refund of the adoption fee?

No, adoption fees are never refunded.  We will gladly take back the pet and work to find another pet as a replacement but refunds cannot be given. Again, Perfect Paws is run solely on monies obtained from our adoption fees.

6.  What age is a pet that is a 'baby' or a 'senior'?

Four age groups have been established to help you see at a glance the approximate age of a pet. We always make an effort to determine the exact age of a pet, and will list their age, if we know it, on their details page. But sometimes, due to the circumstances under which we take in pets [such as strays], we have no way of knowing their exact age, in which case we will use these guidelines to give you an approximate age. The ages of these groups are as follows:

Baby - Newborn to 1 yr old
Young - 1-3 yrs old
Adult - 4-8 yrs old
Senior - 8 yrs old and older

7. What is the easiest way for me to adopt a pet from Perfect Paws?
