Kate’s Half-Marathon Training Log

Saturday, August 5

Ran 6.4 miles with Megan and Liese. It went pretty well, and probably would have gone better if my crappy old Nike socks had not given me a big blister in the arch of my foot.

Friday, August 4

Hiked up to some falls near Liese’s house. I love Vermont!
Thursday, August 3

40 minute run with Liese around Lake Dunmore

Wednesday, August 2

In Vermont, does swimming in a lake and drinking Gin & Tonics count?
Tuesday, August 1

Ran for 40 minutes on the treadmill, as it was 100 degrees outside. I hate the gym.

Saturday, July 29

Ran 3 miles as per my training guide. Easy!

Friday, July 28

Tried to go use the pool but it was closed to due the thunderstorms – apparently lightening can travel through buildings into indoor pools. I had to suck it up on the elliptical for 40 minutes instead. BLAGH!

Thursday, July 27

40 minute run plus form drills

Tuesday, July 25

40 minute run, met my dad who was also out running at the end and we got to jog together for a bit

Monday, July 24

Yoga-time

Sunday, July 23

I was going to try to go to yoga, but I am taking today as a rest day, as was scheduled. I’m a little tired, and I have to work tonight.

Saturday, July 22

5 Mile Endurance Run! Agh. This is the farthest I’ve ever run, and damn, it was hard – but I did it! And in the pouring rain for 30 minutes, no less. It felt pretty awesome.

Friday, July 21

My crosstraining day got muddled do to staying out late with Bates friends in Boston, and waking up early to go to my mom’s infusion session at Mass General and then hop on a train back to NYC. Worked 8 hours on my feet until 2am – does this count?

Thursday, July 20

30 minute run and form drills along the Brook Path in Wellesley, Mass

Wednesday, July 19

Rest Day

Tuesday, July 18

Back in Wellesley! For crosstraining did 30 minutes in the pool;

Monday, July 17

Ran 30 minutes. Had to do it on the treadmill at the gym due to it being 95 degrees here in the Big Sweaty Apple. Did a hilly program to give me some variation. Good times!

Sunday, July 16

Crosstraining: yoga, 1 hour

Saturday, July 15

Endurance Run: 4.5 miles

Friday, July 14

Rest day!

Thursday, July 13

30 minute run

Wednesday, July 12

Crosstraining today – I took advantage of the Boston Sports Club in my town and decided to hit up the POOL. Holy balls. 30 minutes of laps and my legs felt like lead. Good times!

Tuesday, July 11

Back in Massachusetts, where it’s cooler but humid. Did a 30 minute run with lots of hills that felt great. Had a headache at the start which totally disappeared once I began running.

Monday, July 10

Birthday, woke up after not sleeping much with stomach ache still lingering. Took day as a rest day. Got a sunburn.

Sunday, July 9

Rest day and Lennon & June’s wedding! Went to bed with a stomach ache.
Saturday, July 8

Endurance Run: 3 miles. 35 minutes. I’m slow, but it’s a start!

Friday, July 7

Crosstraining: Yoga at the lovely Laughing Lotus Yoga Center. 1 hour.

Seeing Trey/Mike and Phil and Friends tonight, so I expect to add some hippie dancing to today’s crosstraining workout.

Thursday, July 6

30 minute run (5 minute warm up and cool down) followed by Form/Stride Drills

Wednesday, July 5

Rest day

Tuesday, July 4

Crosstraining: 1 hour of yoga

Monday, July 3

Started my official half marathon training program today. Ran for 30 minutes, with 5 minute warm-up, 5 minute cool down, and stretching.

Sunday, July 2

Ran for 40 minutes

Friday, June 29

Yoga! 1 hour
Wednesday, June 28

Did a slow 3 miles

Monday, June 26

3.5 miles, I think? Maybe a little longer.

Was feeling stressed and emotional – needed to get outside and it paid off.

Sunday, June 25

4.5 miles

Ran in the rain. I think I need to be timing myself to see if I am improving. Should I also be monitoring my heart rate? Probably.

    HI Kate,

My brother-in-law recently passed from pancreatic cancer. It was very sad and he was very ill at the end. My family would all like to do a half marathon for him, but I could not find any websites where we could all do it together since we are spread all over the country. I was just wondering if you knew of any.

Thanks for your help and God Bless, Mary
