Nice work.
The event presented extensive knowledge. More of these events can be really appreciated by the LUMS community.
Last year was relatively quiet. I pray Allah gives the good people at LRS the taufeeq to arrange many beneficial lectures and events for the LUMS Community this year.
I’d like to suggest getting in contact with scholars and popular dayees in the US and Canada to give lectures via video-conferencing. It’s simple enough. Dr. Farzad arranged a similar thing with Noam Chomsky.
So this year LRS could try to get maybe Dr. Sherman Jackson (Abdul Hakim Jackson), Dr. Timothy Winter (Abdul Hakim Murad), instructors at Hamza Yusuf’s Zaytuna Institute and Muhammad Al-Shareef’s Al Maghrib Institute.
I think getting Dr. Jackson to speak on theological tolerance and differences and Dr. Winter on Islam and the challenges it faces from modernity would be very beneficial. Particularly the latter, because from all that I have heard on the issue, most of what I have heard outside Dr. Basit Koshul’s classroom has been rather juvenile and extremely uninformed about the aspect of modernity in the question.
