Career to date

Currently

On Sabbatical aboard the family yacht "Wild Bird". Ten years in the planning and saving, we're now living the dream. Plans altered when daughter Elizabeth came along, so now aiming to finish in September 2012 in order to get "Libby" home for school. By then we hope to have cruised east to Marmaris Turkey, then west to Florida, then back to Portsmouth in the Autumn of 2012.

Quality Assurance Engineer, Raymarine. Planning and implementing the qualification of new product including “Multifunction Displays” and VHF radios. Authoring and implementing test plans and schedules, collection of performance data and reporting to senior management. Leading local and offshore teams with a “we care” ethos I’m proud to have delivered in most timely fashion.

Technical Sales Support, Oceanair Marine. Responsible for: Technical product training for staff and distributors; authoring technical documents; technical after-sales support for customers and distributors; website authoring and maintenance; marketing activities such as boat show stand logistics; manning and VOC

Nov 02– Feb 04
Captain s/y “Lady K”.
We joined this new "Bill Tripp" 24 metre cruiser racer before she left the factory. This "state of the art" ketch was launched from Marten Yachts in Auckland in January 2003, and I was responsible for the final stages of construction and her fit out. We cruised 9000 miles from Auckland to Phuket with a variety of crew.

Jul 02–Oct 02
Captain s/y "Cyrano de Bergerac”, the 23 metre Jongert.
Employed with my wife, Penny for the owner’s final season. Tasked with completing refit, delivery from Palma to Corfu, then family cruising among Greek islands from Lefkas to Rhodes. I carried out all deck and engineering maintenance and repair. We finished by laying her up in Marmaris, Turkey.

Mar 01–Aug 01
First Mate on m/y "Fair Lady”, the 37 metre classic motor yacht. Assisting in the running and maintenance (and polishing!) of the yacht. As the unofficial electronics specialist on board, I carried out some charter-saving fault analysis and repair.

Jan 01–Mar 01
Full time study at the United Kingdom Sailing Academy for Class IV.

Sep 00–Nov 00
Engaged as Engineer aboard s/y “Mirabella C”, the 131ft Bruce Farr sloop, during which time there were two charters and an Atlantic crossing. This was a temporary appointment while the regular engineer took leave.

Oct 97–Sep 00
Skipper on s/y “High Five”, a privately owned sloop. Under my command we did an Atlantic circuit and cruised extensively in the Med, Caribbean ,U.S. East Coast and the Baltic. I carried out most of the electronics and engineering maintenance work myself.

Nov 93-Sep 97
Began working for Sunsail in Greece; engineering during winter then instructing, delivery skippering, training and charter skippering during the year. Whilst with Sunsail I undertook many refits and lengthy sea trials, as well as delivering quality sailing holidays.

Sales team leader at the Carphone Warehouse. Responsible for a telesales team selling mobile phones to the hapless public.

Forecast analyst with Mercury Communications;  Key activities were the setting up and maintenance of the forecasting model and reporting to the board with results and analysis.

Networks Planning Manager with British Telecom International. Taking traffic forecasts from the established model and agreeing network growth with overseas counterparts. Presenting monthly reports and data analysis to board-level meetings.

Outside Interests.
I enjoy diving, skiing, flying, tennis, music and entertaining with the guitar – and raising our 2 year old daughter.
