Purpose of Job

To assist the Barge Master in the operation of the company fleet of jack-up barges to the highest level of safety. Developing through on site experience and R7M internal assessments, allowing the Trainee Jack Up Barge Master to progress to the next level of Jacking Engineer.

Main Responsibilities

  • Actively assist in the mobilisation/demobilisation of Jack Up Barge;
  • Actively assist in marine operations on site: barge movements, afloat, crew transfers;
  • Jacking operations on site;
  • Perform maintenance activities in line with level of competence;
  • Responsible for their own health & safety;
  • Under Bargemaster guidance, undertake barge Safety Inductions, Daily Briefings & Tool Box Talks;
  • Assist the Bargemaster in the completion of Barge Daily Diary & Site Movement Sheets
  • Under the guidance of the Bargemaster, monitor tidal ranges;
  • Under the guidance of the Bargemaster, monitor weather patterns.

Responsibilities – Specific to Health & Safety

  • Read and understand the Company Health and Safety Policy and ensure that it is brought to the notice of operatives under their control. Carry out all work in accordance with its requirements;
  • Know the Construction/MCA Regulations applicable to the work on which your operatives are engaged and insist that the Regulations are observed;
  • Take appropriate action when any unsafe acts are observed or reported to you. Likewise, take action as deemed necessary following any report made to you concerning unsafe or damaged plant or equipment etc.;
  • Report all accidents and incidents; and
  • Maintain an appropriate logbook of experience as necessary.

Responsibilities – Specific to Environmental Protection

  • Complying with the Environmental Protection Policy;
  • Reporting any environmental issues, concerns and suggesting improvements; and
  • Compliance with waste management & recycling arrangements.

  • Perform additional/further general duties that are within your level of capability and competence to meet the needs of the business requirements.

Qualifications CSCS Labourer card RYA – Powerboat Level 2 with Commercial Endorsement
MCA seafarers medical(ENG1 or ML5
STCW 95 – mandatory safety training
