Why Come to Almadena

SLOW DOWN and experience a sleepy PORTUGESE VILLAGE with two shops, four Bars, two Restaurants PLUS a daily morning Market where the locals sell their vegtables and fish. The locals are friendly and some speak a little English. There are also quite a few 'Ex-Pats' in the village so if you speak English, German, French or even Welsh you may hear a familiar language.

The country side is all around and the beach is only 5 minutes away by car (15 minutes if you want the West Coast Surfing Beaches). The seaside fishing villages of Burgau and Salema are just down the road - as is the more sophisticated Praia da Luz.

The historic City of Lagos is just 8 kms. away where you can enjoy the Marina, Fishing Harbour, Forts and ancient City Walls, numerous Bars and Restaurants (all types of cuisine), riverside walks and SHOPS. You can also see the Storks nesting on the old chimney's around the city.

Golfers have TWO impressive Golf Courses within 5 kms.

Horse Riding stables are within 2 kms but you have to travel about 4 kms to the Tennis Coaching Centre.

WHY NOT VISIT

Sagres Fishing Harbour with Restaurants, Beaches and Fort ( don't go too near the edge).

Praia da Luz - you'll be able to appreciate what holiday developments do to a quiet fishing village.

Burgau - have an interesting drive along the front, at high tide.

Salema - plenty of small fishing boats on the beach - just like the old days.

Fort of Almadena - between Salema and Burgau - the cliff top 'road' makes for an interesting drive.

Lagos - if you want to live in a city this is it - quiet, picturesque, freindly.

Monchique - Cool down in the hills - warm up with the local 'fire water'.

Cape St. Vicente - the end of civilisation - on a clear day you may see America

A favorite fishing place for the locals but not your kids.

Surfing Beaches of Arrifana and Monte Clerigo - small bars / restaurants for us less active souls.

If you want a local market - you can find one every day of the week

Bored with the beaches, rivers, hills, Towns and villages - why not try a Theme Park or Zoo
