Chelsea FC could sign Modric as Man Utd target Bale ready to quit - report

Tottenham will reportedly let Chelsea target Luka Modric leave for £45million - even though his departure would lead to Gareth Bale quitting the north London club

Reports last month suggested Spurs were ready to break their wage structure and hand Modric a new £75,000-a-week contract to fend off interest from the Blues.

But according to The People, Tottenham are now ready to let the 25-year-old leave White Hart Lane - despite chairman Daniel Levy two weeks ago going public in stating that the Croatia international was not for sale at any price.

Sunday's report suggests that Levy is now resigned to losing the playmaker, even though that could lead to Manchester United target Bale submitting a transfer request.

Recent reports had suggested that the Wales international - who has also been linked with Chelsea as well as the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Inter Milan - would ask for a transfer if the club went back on their word and allowed Modric to leave.

And although there is interest from the Premier League champions, the PFA Player of the Year is reportedly interested in a move to their neighbours and rivals, Manchester City.

A source told the newspaper: "Gareth is just being realistic. He’s worried that injuries or a slump in form would leave Spurs falling further back from the top four and end any realistic chances of him moving to a bigger club.

"He’s loyal to Spurs and wants to become a legend at the club but only if they’re able to provide the right platform for him to do so. City have the finances and the squad to give Gareth what he is looking for."

United are also believed to be interested in signing Modric.
