PROTHALAMION-Belinda and Graham-Friday 28th July 2006

By Tim Povey (a fellow Reading RoadRunner)

It's always nice to write a verse
When two get wed for better or worse.
'Specially when Roadrunners of Reading
Were instrumental in the wedding.
Club skiing trip was far from dull
When B'linda noticed Graham Tull.
So, to say the very least,
They met when both out on the piste.
Later, maybe it was his bike,
The speed, the power she did like.
(Or perhaps it was the leather!)
Anyway, they got together.
Then Graham took redundancy
So more together they could be!
As neither was a xenophobe
They both set off to tour the globe.
Whatever says old Baedeker
They liked the best - "Souse Efrika".
To see whether friendship will weather
Just take a holiday together.
So, this ultra long vacation
Proved each other's dedication,
And, to put a seal on things
They each exchanged "Commitment Rings".
I'm sure the future life they'll share
Will be happy for the pair.
Belinda with each list and table
Will make sure that she is able
A pleasant life to regulate
With her matrimonial mate.
She'll ne'er forget a special day.
(She buys her Christmas gifts in May!)
Many interests they'll be sharing,
Some of them a little daring,
Like paragliding up in space
Where Belinda is an ace
With her knowledge of wind dispersal
Awkward moves need no rehearsal.
They both like running, racing, dashing
Out in the country they go hashing,
Stalwart members of the pack,
"Trainspotter" and his "Anorak".
They seem a quite contented pair.
Graham seldom tears his hair
And Belinda's happy with her lot
Especially once they've tied the knot!
With all the trouble that she takes
Belinda seldom makes mistakes.
But, her wedding cake got overdone
(It could happen to anyone)
Then, cracks in the marzipan
Were not according to her plan!
She thought the icing's white veneer
Would make her problems disappear.
But, in spite of all her slaving
It didn't hide the crazy paving!
Still, I'm sure it will taste lubbly
Washed down with a glass of bubbly.
I hope my couplets didn't rile.
Perhaps they even raised a smile.
May smiles frequent your lives together
And see you through Life's changing weather

Back.
