The Sheffield Hallam Sports Ball celebrates and recognises sporting achievement at Sheffield Hallam and will be held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre on 21st May 2011.
Sheffield City Taxis are this years main sponsors and they are also sponsoring the Sports Personality of The Year award.
The Sheffield Hallam Sports Ball is one of the largest Student Balls in the country attracting over 500 guests. However in 2006 on the 10th year anniversary of the annual Varsity competition the Ball saw its highest attendance of 624.
The 2010 Sports Personality of the Year, Claire Willis, said: “The sports ball is one of the highlights of the year. It is a formal occasion that unites all clubs, staff, teams and supporters to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and achievements of teams at Hallam. It recognises all areas, from those who excel at sport and compete at a higher level, to those who play recreationally and still give as much heart-felt dedication. It celebrates every club no matter what ability and skill level, and the awards recognise how much the Hallam teams bleeds Maroon and White in everything that they do. It is a night like no other.”
Claire Willis is the current Hallam Union Women’s Rep and she went on to add: “We are currently working as a Union to roll out an event similar to the sports ball for all other teams, societies, volunteering and other union services. In fact only weeks ago we had the first ever ‘Hallam Union Student Awards’, which with time we hope to grow to be as big and as glamorous a night as the sports ball.”
Tickets will be available from the HUBS in POD4 or from a member of the Sports Union staff in the Activities POD at the cost of £45.
