Granolithic Floor Screed

Granolithic floor screeds are used in areas where wear in an issue.  Granolithic screeds, or Grano, consist of sand, cement & granite aggregate.

Areas where they are traditionally used are such as;

Weight-lifting areas

Plant rooms

Power stations

Service corridors

warehouses.

Grano’ can be modified with SBR or PVA, to give absorbant resistance and extra bond. They tend to be site-batched, and if mixed badly can cause massive cracking.

The cost of having grano’ floors is cosiderably a lot more expensive than traditional sand & cement screed (possibly between 2 - 3 times more expensive).

Currently grano’ isn’t commonly used, partially because there isn’t many floor layers that lay it anymore, and partially because the costs tend to get the main contractors to look for other specifications.
