Anime Review: 07-Ghost

I’ve been watching this anime lately titled “7-Ghost”. I don’t know if it’s a new release or if it’s been around for a while. But after watching 7 episodes, I’ve felt so compelled to write a review about. I’ve not felt this urge to review an anime since Inazuma Eleven.

The plot line of the story was simple enough to begin with. There’s this huge empire that wants to rule the world and there’s this boy who is an heir (unknown to him for the first couple episodes but there are hints that he could be someone of great importance) to one of the civilizations conquered by this other empire.

It’s setting is in medieval-age Europe with brick houses, green grass hills and people walking around in robes. Guns aren’t used here but rather a technique where they write words in the air and it becomes explosive on impact. They travel in huge aircrafts and small dinosour-bird aircrafts.

To be totally frank, this anime is crap. It’s so bad that I feel compelled to warn the world of it. It’s so terrible that it could probably used as an interrigation method to break people mentally if watched over and over.

This story (I’m guessing) rotates around the friendship and comradeship between 2 guys, the main character and his ‘sidekick’. It becomes icky and weird for me, as I believe that these 2 might be just more than friends. In fact, I’m certain that they’ve explored their sexuality while bunking together in Millitary School.

I maintain my belief that 2 guys can be close. It is possible to share a bed with a friend IF the situation calls for it. BUT, to constantly tell your friend, “I’ll always be with you” does strike questions on the nature of the relationship.

I don’t fancy this anime not purely based on this doubt on their sexual preferences. This anime introduces a religion where the worshipers are the faithful servants of God and the Bishops are the executioners of justice. Literally, they go around killing demons that posses people for their souls. It reminds me a bit of the Kukoo Klucks Klan (don’t they know clan is spelt with a C?) with how they walk around in their white flowing robes and Christianity with the glimpses of an alter and other similarities such as having bishops, priests and (sexually charged, I think) nuns. It becomes uncomfortable for me as this religion comes off as being the TRUE religion and through them salvation can be found.

I think as an overall package; the story line, the execution of the story, the fighting methods and characters are all too familiar and common. It’s not any different from any other fantasy anime out there but unlike other titles in its genre of animes, this one is missable and downright pass-worthy.

  1. I have to say I had some kind of high hope for this series and the first couple of episodes grabbed me but it’s only beeen about 7 episodes and I’m getting a bit frustrated and annoyed with it more than anything. The characters aren’t that likeable and the main character Teito isn’t that deep – not yet anyways. There’s certainly alot of mystery to Teito but the studio is taking far too long to explore that and the unravelling of the pieces seem purposely drawn out to milk the series rather than add depth to the story. This series is beginning to remind me of Nabari No Ou in that it started off great but there just wasn’t enough pacing in the story to keep me interested. I may continue to watch and see if it gets better but if I’m unsatisfied with the next few episodes I may drop it altogether.

  2. Sean, I’d recommend you watch this anime series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, not sure if you’ve seen or heard of it before, but I find it interesting enough, pacing is not too bad, good storyline, plus there’s those huge mecha’s fighting though its nothing like Gundam or Evangelion.

  3. I felt that the show was a bit slow starting off, but I continued to watch it in interest since it was DB release. I am currently in 20’s and it is getting very exciting actually. They are getting more into the past of the characters, and the storyline is so compelling that I am actually looking forward to watch each new episode every week. I like the fact that action is a major theme for this anime, but it doesn’t take over the entire show which can be quite refreshing after watching Bleach for so long : P. I highly recommend it, 07 Ghost gets better with every episode.

  4. Are you sure?????? Are you absolutely sure?? I don’t mind giving it a go but only if you’ll guarantee me it’ll be worth it..

  5. Yes 07- ghost might be a bit slow in the first couple of episodes but the anime gets better and interesting with each episode. A lot of characters get added later and more exploration into Teito`s past makes it watchable. Also one of the major bishops of the church turning out to be a spy and along with exploration into Frau`s past makes the series really interesting. The clash of the imperial military with the church is a really interesting theme and the complications and development of the main characters such as the bishops adds a bit of realism to the anime. The anime ended beautifully on a really interesting note with Teito leaving with Frau to know more about his past, leaves wanting for more. The season 1 ended rather abruptly and suddenly. I wish the Studio Deen looks forward towards making season 2 of the anime for the earnest fans of 07- ghost. The manga is great and there is enough manga material for a season 2 of the anime.

  6. Can I simply say what a relief to uncover an individual who truly knows what they’re discussing over the internet. You certainly understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important. A lot more people should read this and understand this side of the story. It’s surprising you aren’t more popular given that you definitely have the gift.
