Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket

never let it fade away.

save it for a rainy day. dah, dah, dah, dah……….

This songs just keeps coming up to, my being, and then Lisa blogged today and I “get it.” Lately, lots has been up for me and one of the things rumbling around inside my body is a chapter I will be contributing to a parenting book, and then the music started. Just a few short months ago, I would not have paid attention to the song. Now, I listen, participate, look up the words and smile as this flash just keeps coming.

I blogged a few days ago (months or years, I can’t tell anymore) about my question of why our society seems to shoot our stars. This came out of two experiences that this wonderful child that has come to teach me so much, had. I struggle with saying, “my child, our child.” I don’t own her.

Then Lisa blogged and I get what is rumbling around inside of me. We are like many other families. Our home is clean (reasonably) there are meals on the table, we care about each other and we are CRAZY. Crazy making behaviors. Through adult (non victim) choices my husband chooses to stay asleep with alcohol and cigarettes and me (at least lately) with food.

Now, keep up with me. Yesterday, in Ottawa, it was announced on CBC that the High Schools would now have part-time addiction counselors. The breath that I took was so deep that the 9 year old alive being in the back seat went, “what, what did CBC say?” One of the youth being interviewed commented that he thought that 50 to 100 students could use the help of a counselor. All I could think of was the myth of the intact family and the CRAZY that these youth live with, in there homes everyday. Then I thought of the help coming to “fix” the youth. I am not judging the decision, the institution of formal education is asleep.

Back to Lisa, my biggest concern for the 9 year old trying to stay awake is that behaviors are setting in for her to numb herself, so that she too can sleep.

THIS IS NOT OKAY WITH ME!!!!

If I am the guardian of the vision, that I must stay awake.

Thank you Lisa, and the rest of my tribe. I have not been feeling the tribe lately and I now know why it is hard to feel a tribe when I don’t show up.

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket it, save it for a rainy day

Just as another member of the tribe, shared once the intensity of “stop rotting on me.” I feel the same intensity with The Star in the pocket. This song speaks to me about command and control parenting. I have no right to put the star in my pocket and she can’t wait for me to “choose going right” – the time is now. We don’t own the STARS, AND as children, we can certainly put them in our pocket. I hold a vision of the STARS rising to where they are theirSELF.

…never let it fade away.

This is where it is not about good or bad, right or wrong. I believe that most parents are, “trying our best” and want their child’s (star) to shine bright, however, we are asleep and trying harder doesn’t work. I know I am the Queen of that territory.

…..save it for a rainy day

The time is now.

Title: Perry Como – Catch A Falling Star lyrics

Catch a falling star an put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away!
Catch a falling star an put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day!

For love may come an’ tap you on the shoulder,
Some star-less night!
Just in case you feel you wanna hold her,
Youll have a pocketful of starlight!

Catch a falling star an ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away! ( Never let it fade away! )
Catch a falling star an ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day! ( Save it for a rainy day! )

For love may come and tap you on the shoulder,
Some star-less night!
An just in case you feel you wanta hold her,
Youll have a pocketful of starlight!

( . . . pocketful of starlight! ) [ hum in time ]

Catch a falling star an ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away! ( Never let it fade away! )
Catch a falling star an ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day! ( Save it for a rainy . . . Save it for a rainy, rainy rainy day! )

For when your troubles startn multiplyin,
An’ they just might!
Its easy to forget them without tryin,
With just a pocketful of starlight!

Catch a falling star an ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away! ( Never let it fade away! )
Catch a falling star an put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day!

( Save it for rainy day! ) Save it for a rainy day!

Sandy I read this blog about an hour ago, and then walked away from this blog, yet, continued to think about it…the “voice” I am hearing is a “candor” voice…a voice that awakens huge potential, and too, for me, a welcoming “voice” right now, to start looking at “what” we are differently! There is “more”…
