General Description

Below deck

Sundancer is a sloop rigged Colvic Countess 33 with centre cockpit and fin keel. Although only 33feet/10.08m long the deep beamy hull (11ft 9in/3.6m) gives the accomodation space of many 36 to 38 ft yachts as can be seen from the floor plan below.

The interior of Sundancer was significantly altered from the original Ian Anderson design during the building programme.

In the aft cabin there is a lengthwise double berth together with en-suite heads with holding tank.

At the head of the berth is a full length hanging locker/wardrobe. A settee bench opposite also provides seating to the vanity table. Additional stowage in abundance exists at the foot of and beneath the bed and around the settee area.

Good access to both sides of the Perkins Perama M30 diesel engine is provided from the passageway and from the cockpit locker.

Forward of the engine, a calorifier provides hot water and a 35 gallon diesel tank sits beneath the cabin sole.

Forward of the passageway to port is the forward facing navigation station with a chart table taking a single fold admiralty chart with plenty of storage beneath. Navigation instruments, radio and the electric distribution panel are conveniantly situated in this area. A comprehensive tool kit is kept in interlocking trays under the navigator's seat.

To starboard opposite the nav station is the L shaped galley with Plastimo cooker, top loading fridge and double sinks surrounded by tiled work surfaces. Crockery and cutlery for 6 together with a comprehensive set of cooking utensils are safely arranged in this area.

Two settee berths either side of the large drop leaf table comprise the saloon accomodation. Under the aft end of each berth is a 15 gallon water tank. A further 30 gallon tank is fitted under the cabin sole amidships. Stowage is provided beneath, behind and above the berths. Drinks stowage is in the centre of the table and forward of the table is a Taylors paraffin heater.

Forward of the saloon is the main heads to port with shower and hanging/wet locker to starboard. The door to the heads when fully opened, closes off the fore-cabin. The door to the saloon can then also be closed to form a wide shower room.

The forward cabin contains a standard v-berth with removable in-fill. Sail stowage etc. is beneath the berths.

Deck fittings

At the bow is a double roller stem head fitting and 4 substantial cleats. A deck hatch to port contains the normal mooring warps. There is 60m of 8mm chain in the chain locker, opening to starboard. The windlass is a Quick 500W.

At the mast, 2 mast mounted Lewmar 16 winches and rope clutches handle all foresail halyards. Turning blocks at the mast foot lead all mainsail lines, halyard, topping lift and 2 slab reefs, aft to the cockpit. A Barlow 24 is mounted to port on the hatch coaming behind 4 clutches to handle main halyard, topping lift and 2 clew reef outhauls. To starboard are 4 more clutches for reef tack downhauls and kicking strap (plus spare).

On the cockpit coaming are: Antal W44ST P and S primary genoa winches, Lewmar 16ST P and S spinnaker winches and a Barlow 16 to Port for genoa furling.

There are 2 midship mooring cleats and 2 more on the aft quarters.

A folding bimini covers the aft of the cockpit. Zip on additions to this can be added to completely enclose the cockpit

Aft of the cockpit is a substantial stainless steel gantry onto which is mounted an 80W solar panel and the Navtex antenna.

On the pushpit a roller drum contains some 70m of line for tying ashore. A 13kg danforth type anchor with 10m of 8mm chain is stowed on the pushpit with 40m of warp in the lazarette.
