I just bought this crazy thing… I am kinda scared but also intrigued – a friend has had this done many times when in Asia and said it is amazing. So, I have gotten this for me and my friend – she lived out in Asia in a variety of places from China and Malaysia to Korea and Japan and has had this done several times. It’s the norm to have little fish swimming round your feet to remove dead skin cells and hard patches of skin out there apparently. I believe it is also common in India? Although don’t quote me on that. Basically, these are warm water fish which eat dead cells and make your feet better. I have been assured these fish have no teeth at all – they say they nibble the skin off, however it is a toothless thing and I guess they gently suck the dead skin off? OK, putting myself off this now by trying to describe it. I am told it tickles a little and because they need warmth you have warm gently tickled feet as they remove all the dead and hard skin cells for you. They only eat dead cells so don’t worry there.

The Garra Rufa fish are specially breed and protected species of fish and are also called Doctor Fish in a few places as their tendency to safely and gently remove dead skin can also be used to help treat a variety of other skin complains and help alleviate symptoms of skin diseases in some countries. From what I have read – they are basically nice and do good things.

I am kind of scared I must say – this is an odd thing to do. But my friend misses doing it and I want to know what it is like and need someone to go with, and for £9 I really can’t complain! Its 25 minutes of treatment which I am told is sitting, relaxing and chatting whilst the fish fix your feet and you are warm and comfortable.

Well – I certainly look forward to finding out… its funny how some things seem so odd to some people but are completely everyday and normal to others. Regardless – it seems a much more natural and nicer way of treating my feet to remove hard skin and getting a pedicure. Surely these little Garra Rufa fish are nicer than a file or some kind of cream to remove the skin? For one thing, they only effect areas which need it – so I am safe from sore feet. And they do all the work.
