Após o lançamento do álbum "Waterloo Lily", o tecladista Steve Miller abandona a banda e o baixista Richard Sinclair também a deixa para formar futuramente o Hatfield & The North. Insatisfeitos com a direção muito influenciada pelo jazz que o ultimo trabalho seguia a banda retorma ao um estilo similar as seus trabalhos anteriores optando por canções mais diretas lideradas pelo memorável vocal de Pie Hastings. Esse álbum também marca a volta de um David Sinclair mais discreto nos teclados e a estréia de Geoff Richardson na viola enriquecendo o som da banda. Apesar ter optado por algumas canções mais acessíveis o Caravan ainda mostra muita criatividade como nas faixas "Memory Lain, Hugh / Headloss" e em "A Hunting We Shall Go" acompanhada por uma orquestra.
