Visit to Dimapur

Met the Addl SP, Mr.Vilhousie of Dimapur Police at his Office and submit the FIR at about 10:15am on 9^th July 2007 with my friend and colleague Mr.Khup. I request him to sign on my personal copy of the FIR as acknowledgment of receipt. He was almost angry. Asked me whether I trust him or not. I told him that I do trust him to help me out. He showed us the Zimmanama Ref. Mdz. PS. Case No. 0018/06 and GDE No 0153/06 of 18/12/06 dated 4^th January 2007 wherein Khup put his signature. The Zimmanama is legal undertaking showing that Khup has taken a possession of the damage Vehicle and will produce the same before the Magistrate when asked for. Khup denied it. He then told us to come back again in the evening.

1000Hrs: Went to Dimapur NABARD Office and update my blogs. Received a call from Mr. Akang, ASI of Dimapur Traffic Police who is handling my accident case. He advises me to meet him.

1145Hrs: Went to the Addl. SP again to meet Akang but on not seeing Akang around I met Addl. SP and received a copy of the FIR so lodged No.1573/07 dated 09 July 2007 with a stamp on my personal copy. The letter of FIR I sent by Speed post also just arrived. Request a photocopy of the old FIR made on 21 December 2006 by Mr. Asi Moatoshi Ao. He inform me that Akang had already sold my accidental vehicle by Rs.7000/-.He told me that “its a gone case for Akang” meaning that his service will be under suspension and he will need to give me a new Vehicle with Khup if I fight the case as lost vehicle. Akang call and inquire about Khup which I told him that Khup's phone is with me and Khup himself is in NABARD Office (Dimapur). After waiting for them for some time to turn up I made a phone call to Sh. Akang. When I mention about my damaged vehicle he told me straightly :“ moi na jane, bishi din hoise to” which means “ I don't know about it as it has been a long time ago”. I then straightly told him at my meeting him that I did not authorised anybody to dispose my Vehicle. He was speechless and helpless. I insist on him showing me the Vehicle.

1400Hrs: After waiting for Mr. ALal Singsit who is also working in Police Department we took an auto rickshaw and traced out the totally dismantled vehicle inside a room at the back of Hotel Sente in Dimapur under the custody of one Mr. Sharma. I took photos of the Vehicle. The caretaker told us that we need to talk with Mr. Sharma. Akang and Sharma needs to settle their case between them as the vehicle was bought with a price from Akang. Akang replied threatening him not to talk like that as the case is still going on.

1530Hrs: Met the Divisional Manager of Oriental Insurance of Dimapur branch at his Office and try to officially hand over the damaged vehicle but he stopped us and call Mr. Borah, the second surveyor who was based in Guwahati. He said the due to counseling of his son in IIT he'll be sending his representative tomorrow by Shatabdi train positively. I confirm his inspection and he even said that the inspection of his representative will be final.

Went back to NABARD Office. The signature in the Zimmanama belongs to Khup’s and Bendang now act as the mediator and ask Khup to claim the signature as his himself (Khup) in front of Addl SP. I in the meantime publish the FIR in my blog.

Finally they spotted the vehicle on Wednesday. Kamzalian, the only person who was alive, was taken to private nursing home where he is reported to be out of danger.

However, he was in a state of trauma, doctors said on Thursday.

Kamzalian was alive for five days without food and warm clothes in the extreme winter conditions of Nagaland, the police said.

Telephone call to Insurance

I called on the Regional Office of Oriental Insurance about my Insurance claim on Friday the 6 September 2007 and was told by Mr G Kalita that The Regional Manager Sh PC Hota is not in his office. I've been calling them to inquire about the status of my claim but no information was not given to me. It looks like there is no second Officer who is having the knowledge of Insurance claim in their Regional Office

Subject: Lodging of FIR for lost of accidental Hyundai Santro Car bearing
AR-O1B 5726

With due regards, I beg to state that I suffered a fatal motor vehicle accident on December 16, 2006 at Piphema wherein my mother, brother and a cousin sister died on the spot and I miraculously survived. The chain of events as regards to the said accident is mentioned in the annexure attached to this application.

2. That the damaged vehicle, recovered with the helped of the Dimapur traffic police on December 25, 2006, was placed near the gate of Dimapur Traffic Police Station by the Police Dept. The local surveyor from Oriental Insurance Company Ltd. (OIC), Dimapur verified and inspected the accidental vehicle and submitted his report to OIC in this regard. After 3 months of the first inspection of the accidental vehicle, second surveyor from OIC, Guwahati again went to the Police Station, Dimapur on April 18, 2007 to inspect the accidental vehicle but to his surprise, the accidental vehicle, kept near the gate of Dimapur Traffic Police Station, was found missing. The surveyor reported the missing of the accidental vehicle to its Head Office.

3. To my surprise, on June 29, 2007 I got to know that the accidental vehicle was handed over to Mr. G. Thangchinkhup as per the Police record. But I never authorized him or anybody to take the accidental vehicle out of the Police custody on my behalf. You may please let me know on what ground the vehicle was handed over to him.

4. As I have been posted to NABARD, Delhi centre, I approached the OIC Delhi Office for claiming the insurance money of the accidental vehicle. But, to my surprise, the OIC Delhi Office informed me that the matter will be treated as closed in the absence of the non-production of the accidental vehicle by the owner. I have been advised by the Insurance official at Delhi that in order to get the insurance money I have to produce either the accidental vehicle or a copy of FIR lodged for the missing of the accidental vehicle from the Dimapur Traffic Police Station.

5. Since I have been posted to NABARD, Delhi centre, it will be very difficult for me to come personally to file the FIR at Dimapur. Therefore, I humbly request you to lodge FIR on my behalf for my missing accidental vehicle from your Police station. A copy of the FIR lodged on my behalf may please be sent to me on my following address as soon as possible:

I would like to highlight and apprise you of the course of action taken so far with regard to my claim for my car insurance policy (as far as my knowledge is concern) in chronological order:

1. December 16, 2006: My vehicle of Hyundai Santro Car bearing registration No. AR - 01B – 5726 met with a fatal accident near Piphema on December 16, 2006. Three occupants - my dear mother (Ningzaman), brother (T. Langbiaklian) and cousin sister (Dimhauniang) died on the spot.

2. December 20 & 21, 2006: The corpses were traced out after a thorough search made with the help of the Forces and recovered on December 20, 2006 from a deep gorge of about 300 feet. The dead bodies were post-mortemed at Dimapur Civil Hospital on December 21, 2006.

3. December 24, 2006: The totally damaged vehicle was recovered with the help of Dimapur Traffic Police (DTP) by M/s Sharma Breakdown Service on December 24, 2006 and was placed with the DTP at Dimapur Traffic Police station.

4. April 18 & May 4, 2007: The second surveyor from Guwahati was sent on April 18, 2007 to Dimapur to inspect the vehicle and the vehicle was found missing. He contacted me over telephone and informed me about the lost vehicle.

5. April 28, 2007: On my first opportunity I visited Dimapur on April 28, 2007 from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. I along with my friend Mr. G. Thangchinkhup went and visited the DTP Station and found the vehicle missing as reported by the second surveyor. On enquiry we were told that the Police Officer handling the case has been transferred to Crime branch and we did not get any co-operation from the dealing staff. No information or record was told or shown to us. I wrote one application to issue me ‘Vehicle Lost Certificate’ but the Police did not receive it. I was further told that the owner took the vehicle. I have made clear to them that I am the owner and I neither take the car nor authorize anybody to take the car on my behalf. As per their advice I went to the Dimapur Police for the lost certificate. I was straight away told that they did not have any knowledge of the vehicle and its accident and that the lost certificate is to be issued by the Traffic Division (Police).

6. June 29, 2007: After contacting a friend in Dimapur to enquire the police station he informed us that according to the Police record the vehicle was already taken by the name of Mr.G. Thangchinkhup, Asst. Manager, NABARD, Dimapur. My friend Mr. G. Thangchinkhup was totally unaware of the car being taken in his name.

5. December 27, 2006: The NABARD, Dimapur Regional Office on December 27, 2006 has written to the Oriental Insurance Company (OIC), Naharlagan informing them about the accident and requesting them to do the needful regarding the insurance policy.

6. January 3 & 9, 2007: The damage car lying at DTP station was inspected by the Dimapur OIC surveyor. As per the report submitted by the Hyundai Agency of Dimapur and the District Transport Office, Motor Vehicle Department, Dimapur, Nagaland dated January 3 & 9, 2007, respectively, the vehicle was totally damage and was beyond repair.

7. January 17, 2007: Police Investigation Report was made about the Motor Vehicle Accident.

8. During January and February, 2007 the NABARD Regional Offices of Itanagar and Dimapur keep on pursuing the case mainly through telephone calls to your OIC offices in Dimapur and Guwahati. They were informed that the case has been referred to Guwahati office and has been taken up.

9. March 21, 2007: Wrote an e-mail to OIC Guwahati Regional Office on March 21, 2007 and received a delivery report on March 23, 2007 to process the case.

10. March 21, 2007: Visit the OIC, Naharlagan but the office was closed since it was Saturday.

11. March 26 & 28, 2007: Visit Mr. B.C. Das, Divisional Manager of the Naharlagan Divisional Office of OIC on March 26, 2007 wherein he was unable to inform me on any development. On my visit again on March 28, 2007 I was informed by the Divisional Manager that the case is still pending in Guwahati.

12. April 9 & 13, 2007: E-mailed the OIC Head Office, Delhi on April 9, 2007 requesting them to expedite the process and received a reply on April 13, 2007 saying that the matter has been taken up with the concerned Office(s).

13. April 18 & May 4, 2007: The second surveyor from Guwahati was sent on April 18, 2007 to Dimapur to inspect the vehicle and the vehicle was found missing. He contacted me over telephone and informed me about the lost vehicle. As per his telephonic advice I contacted the Divisional Manager, Naharlagan. I wrote to him (dated May 4, 2007) and request for the settlement of the claim (for the car and the three life compensation claim for the deaths) on compassionate ground along with the following documents once again:

i) Post Mortem report - 3Nos.
ii) FIR lodged by NABARD, Nagaland RO
iii) Police Investigation Report - 1No.
iv) Affidavit - 3Nos.

15. June 20, 2007: Received a letter from second surveyor, Mr. Romesh Borah, informing me about his search for the missing car at Police station Dimapur and requesting me to produce the same.

16. June 20, 2007: On June 20, 2007 I went and met Mr. E. Chandrasekharan, Chief Manager at the OIC Head Office in Asaf Ali Road, Delhi. I was told that he had received a letter from the second surveyor saying that the matter may be treated as close since the owner was unable to produce the vehicle. After apprising him of the situation and the difficulties and problems face by me, he advice me to file an FIR and to obtain a non-traceable certificate from the Dimapur Police.

17. June 29, 2007: After contacting a friend in Dimapur to enquire the police station he informed us that according to the Police record the vehicle was already taken by the name of Mr. G. Thangchinkhup, Asst. Manager, NABARD, Dimapur. My friend Mr. G. Thangchinkhup was totally unaware of the car being taken in his name. Again I met Mr. E. Chandrasekharan in his office at around 5:15 pm the same day and ask for his advice again regarding filing of an FIR since the car was taken in the name of my best friend, Mr. G. Thangchinkhup. Mr. E. Chandrasekharan advice me to take appointment and meet Mr. P.C. Hota, Regional Chief Manager (Off. Ph. 2730523) at Guwahati as he will be the best person to advice me in the matter.

The totally damaged Vehicle AR-01B-5726 was place near the gate of Dimapur Traffic Police for more than 3 months for the verification of your Surveyor from Guwahati even though a local Surveyor of your Office has already verified and submitted to you the report. In the meantime some miscreant took it away after about 3 months of waiting for your Surveyor. The where about of the damaged vehicle was not known to me.

The case may please be settle on compassionate ground.

With reference to the above subject, we are to inform you that the vehicle of Shri Kamzalian, Asst. Manager attached to the Itanagar based NABARD Regional Office of Arunacahal Pradesh had met with an accident near Piphema enroute to Kohima along NH -39 within the jurisdiction of Nagaland state, on the early morning hours of 16th December 2006. The make of the above vehicle is a Santro-Xing manufactured by Hyundai Co. bearing engine No. GUHG 5 M 708472 and Chassis No. MA LAA 51 HR 5 M 762590 * L. The above vehicle has been insured with your company through your office and the cover period of the above policy is effective from 16.01.2006 to 15.01.2007. Shri Kamzalian could be rescued only on the evening of 20th December 2006 with the help of local police authorities and had been admitted to the Zion Hospital at Dimapur however three other members of his family travelling with him lost their lives in the mishap. Shri Kamzalian had sustained serious injuries and is not in a position at present to apprise your office in writing regarding the above incident and to lodge his insurance claim. At present he has been shifted to his home state of Manipur and is admitted to the Shija Hospital at Imphal. On his behalf, the NABARD Nagaland Regional Office is therefore informing you regarding the above case as the office had been coordinating with the local police authorities for the search and rescue of Shri Kamzalian. It may be stated that due to the difficult terrain and great depth of the gorge (over 300 feet) into which the vehicle had plunged, the police authorities could retrieve the vehicle only on 25th December 2006 and the same is presently lodged at the traffic police station of Dimapur. We enclose a copy of press clipping which appeared in one of the local dailies regarding the above accident.

You are therefore requested to kindly do the needful at your end. Further correspondence on the above may please be taken up with our Regional Office at Itanagar at the undernoted address:

Rescue Operation report

On 18th December 2006 the RO come to know from different sources that Shri. T. Kamzalian, AM, Itanagar, was missing somewhere in between Dimapur and Kohima on his way to Churachandpur. The RO immediately sprung up in action to collect as much as information regarding his probable whereabouts and find out clues of his movements.

In the process, we got the information from BSNL sources that Shri T Kamzalian might have made a call from his mobile from Medziphema Tower. On that basis, we approach SP and Addl. SP of Nagaland Police to trace out the whereabouts of Shri. T. Kamzalian and his vehicle. The matter has also been taken up with the Principal Home Secretary, Government of Nagaland. At first instance, SP office indicated that they have no information of vehicle accident as of that day/time in the route. However, promised to do the needful to trace out Shri T. Kamzalian.

On the same day at 18 hrs, we met OIC of Medzephema PS and explained the whole fact and requested him to make efforts to trace out Shri. T. Kamzalian. Meanwhile, some people had conveyed some confusing information and drawn up the possibility of case of abduction. However, we engaged, some social organizations, well-wishers to make an enquiry, whether some underground organizations reveal their involvement in the suspected case. But, none of the so called underground organizations had confessed their involvement. On that basis we were almost sure that missing of Shri. T. Kamzalian was not a case of abduction but may be an accident. Having that idea, we again approach the SP Dimapur and had held discussion on the issue and expressed our concern.

We requested them to make a thorough search/combing between Dimapur to Kohima on NH-39. On the basis of our prevent request they agreed to clear our doubts and advised Medzephema PS to undertake search operation and advise them within a reasonable time. Out of curiosity, a group of officers led by M C Gayari, AGM had gone upto Piphema to look out for Shri. T. Kamzalian.

Incidentally, while coming down from Piphema to Ferima just before a sharp turn we noticed a broken side wall of the road. At that point police have also reached the spot. But the vehicle was hardly visible due to deep jungle and deep distance (300 ft.). Some of the police personnel and Staffs of the RO gone down the slope and identified the vehicle and the deceased inmates down below the accident site. Three bodies had been noticed who were the mother of T. Kamzalian, his brother and cousin sister.

Miraculously, it was found that Shri. T. Kamzalian crawled upto the roadside in a very critical condition. He was immediately taken to nearby Primary Health Centre at Medzephema. Shri. M C Gayari, AGM contacted SP, Dimapur while Shri G. Thangchinkhup, Asst Manager informed close relatives of T. Kamzalian and we approach Assam Rifles Unit, Piphema for help in the rescue operation. Both Police Department and Assam Rifles immediately rushed to the site for rescue operation with the help of local youth to retrieve the bodies of the deceased from the deep gorges. With all hazardous operation, the work was completed at 1200 hrs on 20th December 2006 and the dead bodies were carried to Civil Hospital under the Supervision of the local police.

All the above rescue operations were possible on account of our effective coordination and whole hearted cooperation from Police, Assam Rifle, local youth and the general public.

Miraculous escape for accident victim

Dimapur, DEC20 [IFP] : It is a miracle. Five days after a horrendous accident that killed three members of his family, a NABARD official from Churachandpur in Manipur was found still alive by the Nagaland police today. Kamzalian Paite, an assistant manager of the NABARD posted in Arunachal Pradesh was returning home for his marriage along with family members when their car met an accident and fell some 200 feet into a hillside gorge near Piphema on the night of December 15.Though all three of his companions, including his mother and brother were killed, Kamzalian was rescued alive by Dimapur police five days after the mishap. The SP, Dimapur, Bidhu Shekhar, said that it was a "miracle" that Paite survived despite being starved and lashed by the winter chill for five days. According to the SP, Paite was traveling to his hometown Churachandpur, Manipur, on December 15 along with three members of his family in connection with his marriage on December 29.However, his vehicle, a Santro, met with the accident close to Assam Rifles post at Piphema in Nagaland on the night of December 15. The vehicle fell about 150 to 200 feet below the road killing Paite`s three members and injuring him seriously. According to sources, no one had any knowledge about the mishap till the Dimapur police conducted a search and rescued Paite today. Earlier, after the quartet went missing, their relatives lodged a complaint with Dimapur police. Till now the bodies of the other three were still lying in the gorge and it would be a difficult task to recover them.

Tribal Christian Marriage

There was a man called H. H. Coleman from Philadelphia in the United States. Though a moonshiner during the days of prohibition in the States and a dismissed employee of the New York Bible Institute, he ingratiated himself to join the Home Council of North East India General Mission (NEIGM) as a temporary Office Assistant in 1926. This NEIGM American Council was set up in Philadelphia in 1924 by Watkin Roberts, the founder of the Mission to supplement the works of the London (British) Council. Mr. Coleman was however a clever genius, a venomous snake in the grass.

Soon, he plotted against Mr. Roberts. With the deftness of a devil’s hand, he took control of both London and Philadelphia Councils, dislodged Watkin Roberts from his position and became General Secretary of the Mission. His next move was to disgrace Roberts completely by snatching his Mission with the help of the Home Council and the British officials in Manipur, his main field of operation.

It was this Coleman who first raised in the Court the validity of the marriage licence being held by the tribal ordained pastors and ministers in the Mission. Why did he raise this issue? Let me tell you the sordid background. It was a long and shameful story but I will cut it short to an arm’s length.

After hijacking the Home Councils, Coleman’s next move, as mentioned above, was to capture the Mission Field from Roberts and consign him from ignominy into oblivion. But he only partially succeeded in this game. Roberts was lucky to have a staunch supporter in the person of one H. K. Dohnuna, his Field Secretary at the Lakhipur headquarters near Silchar.

Dohnuna was a man of honour and influence, hardworking and efficient and highly respected by his people. Coleman soon discovered that the only way to eliminate Roberts from the Field was to have Dohnuna on his side, and if Dohnuna refused to co-operate, to remove him too from Lakhipur headquarters by employing a carrot and stick policy.

Coleman therefore first tried to inveigle him into joining his side by making juicy promises. He failed. Dohnuna refused to bite his dangling baits. He now had to resort to his stick and hammer policy. He threatened Dohnuna that if he did not leave Lakhipur voluntarily at his bidding, he would take him to court for a serious violation that would land him in jail for ten years.

That ‘serious violation’ referred to by Coleman is the subject of this article. H. K. Dohnuna’s eldest son was Dr. H.K.Thanglura from his first wife. Dr. Thanglura married a girl named Darchhunkimi (Darsunkim) from Parbung in Manipur. The marriage was performed by Pastor Kambuanga, an ordained pastor from the Mission at Lakhipur, Cachar District, Assam. Pastor Kambuanga in the past married off many tribal christian couples and issued them marriage certificates as per the form designed and approved by the Church. This is a practice being followed till this day in the hills.

The foxy Coleman however tried to nail Dohnuna on this very issue so that the latter hit the jail for ten long years. Coleman’s contention was that Pastor Kambuanga did not have a marriage licence to entitle him to perform a marriage under the Indian Christian Marriage Act XV of 1872 and therefore the marriage solemnised by him was invalid and violative of Section 109 of Indian Penal Code which was punishable for a ten year imprisonment. Since Dohnuna knowingly and illegally arranged the marriage of his son to be solemnised by an unlicensed pastor, both he (Dohnuna) and Pastor Kambuanga were guilty of violating the law.

Accordingly, Coleman arranged a complaint petition filed in the name of Mr. Zamkaia, one of the Kuki students of Dinwiddie Bible School at Lakhipur on May 13, 1930 before the court of Mr. G. D. Walker, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. Coleman apparently had consulted Walker before on this issue and it was believed that the petition was filed at the behest of the latter.

The hearing was fixed for June 9, 1930. The fact was that the petitioner Zamkaia did not even know the contents of the petition but was made to sign by Coleman on the dotted line with Pastor Paul Rostad, Principal of the Bible School and Mrs Ella Rostad as witnesses. On May 15, Dohnuna and Kambuanga were arrested by the police but were granted bail of Rs.1000/- each, a huge sum reserved only for serious crimes.

Dohnuna’s explanation was that (a) the Indian Christian Marriage Act was not applicable in Mizoram, Manipur and other adjoining hill areas and (b) the marriages amongst the Hill Tribes of these places were solemnised according to the native christian customs by pastors appointed, in accordance with the native christian customs prevalent among the Hill Tribe Christians, by the assemblage of the Christians themselves. Therefore, summoning the accused under the circumstances of the case was improper, illegal and ultravires.

Sensing that he might not get justice before the court of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, a suspected corroborator of Coleman, Dohnuna immediately moved the Calcutta High Court to transfer his case to some other Court outside the District of Cachar. The Calcutta High Court accordingly immediately transferred the case to Syhlet Court where the two accused were released on bail of Rs. 50/- each only and not Rs. 1000/- imposed by the Cachar Deputy Commissioner’s Court mentioned before.

After the first hearing in Syhlet, the petitioner Zamkaia, having realised the gravity of his petition, withdrew the case much to the annoyance and embarrassment of Coleman whose intriguing game plan was exposed and thwarted by the sensibility of the tribal dignity and honour and also by the fear of God over his (Coleman’s) abominable devilry. As a result, the case was never formally decided.

One of the few missionaries consulted by Dohnuna on the issue was Edwin Rowlands, then serving as High School Principal in Rangoon. Rowlands clarified that there was once a suggestion to extend Indian Christian Marriage Act to the hill areas also but the pioneer missionaries objected to its extension on the ground that
(a) the hill people had already devised a marriage system of their own relevant to their living conditions and level of growth and it would therefore suffice to add to it only solemnisation of the marriage in the Church according to christian practices
and (b) the hill people were not yet ready to have a complex system of marriage like Indian Christian Marriage Act with its complicated legal bindings and litigations. This position still holds good in most hill areas till this day.

When India became independent and the Constitution was adopted, the new leaders very wisely and farsightedly included Sixth Schedule in the Constitution to specially safeguard and protect the traditions and customary laws and practices of the tribal people of north-east India. This includes traditional marriage practices and other related customs. The constitutional safeguard does not cover tribal Christian marriage.

In point of law, therefore, the tribal Christian marriage as practiced in our society has no legal standing and is not enforceable in the court of law; it only has a moral value. What has been recognised and protected under the Sixth Schedule is marriage held under customary laws and practices of the tribal people living in a specified scheduled area and not marriage performed by our pastors in the church.

The marriage licence held by our ordained pastors and ministers are not valid for conducting marriage under Indian Christian Marriage Act. Pastors, please check your legally invalid and unrecognised marriage licences!

KOHIMA, Dec 21: After lying half-dead for nearly five days along with corpses of his relatives, an accident victim was the rescued by Dimapur Police.

Thirty-year-old T Kamzalian, an Assistant Manager of NABARD, posted at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, survived miraculously after a 300-foot fall along with the vehicle in which he was travelling with his kin.

Kamzalian was going from Itanagar to Churachandpur, Manipur, along with his mother, Ningzanan,53, brother Langkidlian,23 and sister Jauniang,20. They reached Nagaland on December 15 and went missing after crossing Chumukedima.

Their relatives informed the police on December 17 about the incident confirming that Kamzalian’s mobile phone was active up to medziphema between Dimapur and Kohima. Taking the clue, police swung into action and carried search operations along the national highway 39. Finally they spotted the vehicle near Piphema yesterday. Police immediately recovered all the four people. Kamzalian was the only one found alive among them.

He was taken to private nursing home in Dimapur by the police, where he responded to the treatment. Kamzalian is said to be out of danger now. However, he was in a state of trauma, doctors said today.

Kamzalian remained alive for five days without food and warm clothes in the extreme winter conditions of Nagaland, police said.

Lamka, December 20: An assistant manager in NABARD's Itanagar branch and three others was found at a gorge about 350 ft deep on the National Highway 39 stretch of Piphema and Dimapur today at around 3 pm.T Kamzalian the Assistant Manager of NABARD, his mother Ningzaman, brother Langbiaklian and a relative Dimhauniang were travelling in a Santro car while en route for a remarkable vacation at home.However, their relatives and family members at Tangnuam about 2 kms from here were in a tizzy since Saturday as they hear no words about them ever since Kamzalian call his elder brother on Friday night.Four days after their whereabouts remains a mystery, NABARD's Dimapur branch and Nagaland police initiated a search party to trace the missing individuals who after combing the highway trace the car on a gorge.'We initially expect demands for ransom as we initially suspect abduction to be the sole case of the disappearance.However our suspicion shift to calamity as no ransom demands were received even after four days of their disappearance' Thangchinkhup, Asst Manager of Dimapur NABARD and a close friend of Kamzalian told this correspondent using a mobile phone from the accident spot at around 6 pm today.The search party after observing a shattered protection wall near Piphema village detects the car on a gorge right side of the road.At about halfway to the gorge Kamzalian was found in a very critical condition and immediately rushed to Dimapur, while the other three were already dead and still remains inside the car.The exact condition of Kamzalian who incidentally is schedule to walk the isle in 29th December with Chinngaihlian of New Lamka, after reaching Dimapur could not be establish due to the intricacy involved in communication, while the body of the three others will be retrieve early tomorrow with the help of Assam Rifles in Piphema.Supdt. of Dimapur Shidhu Shekhar and Addl. SP Vihousie were still on the accident spot even at the time of filing this report.
