{ Architecture of an Outfit } Pale Yellow….Forever hollow, that’s worse than yellow // Piss is the color of tears

{Lyrics from “Pale Yellow” by The Ditty Bops}

The lyrics kind of match my mood with the stupid weather, because I rather hate wet, hot sticky summers here in the Great Lakes Land. Yesterday was GREY. Grey and HOT. A rather abominable, loathsome way to spend an afternoon… even if only traversing from the car back to the house and vice versa, let me tell you.

Like I said yesterday, I dress around a singular element sometimes and build an outfit that way. Yesterday, it was the shoes because JELLY SHOES rock in the rain. Plus, they are yellow, which is a perfect way to combat the summer gloom. Um, and the bows. Yeah, bows.

I always feel like a total idiot in front of the camera, and I never know how to pose. So, while I’ve done the traditional Oh-So-Serious posing, and the absolutely bat-crazy Mae posing, I don’t think I’ve done super cute. So here we go. If you stop reading me, I think I might actually understand.

I wore grey because, naturally, I have about 3 other colors than yellow in my wardrobe, and everything else is grey. It’s kind of a go to, since the underlying color in the lace boho blouse is a dove grey. The pop of yellow was enough to bring in color to the ensemble, and the underlying palette is neutral.

  1. Hahaha you crack me up sometimes. Aren’t those shoes just plain mad??

“…and I never know how to pose”…whatever, Mae. You have like the most variety of poses I’ve ever seen on any fashion blogger. Here, I like the some-Korean-girl-group’s “Nobody, Nobody” pose, best ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I recognized the Squash Blossom top right away! I wish I had more sunny yellow pieces in my wardrobe to brighten my days. Rainy AND humid are the worst and we’ve had plenty of them in Atlanta this week.

I love all of your different poses. I end up just doing the same silly grin.

  3. Oh hello there, I can’t even discuss how much I adore those shoes. Jelly as well? Double the fun! I found your blog via Tumblr (I’m Lack of Creativity) ;)! I seriously wish I could pull off wearing yellow, I always look sickly when I try. Boo. Also, I struggle with the posing thing too, that makes two of us!

  4. Love that pop of yellow! couldn’t bring myself to buy Chanel Mimosa so I found a Rimmel dupe (LE apparently hehe) can’t wait to use it! Ohh ive seen those jelly heels from Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, are they comfortable??

  5. Finally we get to see the full picture…. and I’m loving it!
It’s amazing how versatile yellow as a color is.
I love with blue, now I also love it with grey! ๐Ÿ™‚

Those jelly shoes are uber uber uuuuuuuber adorable.
Do they attract a lot of attention at the office? ๐Ÿ™‚

I dress up according to the current weather, so unfortunately, I do nothing to combat the June gloom.
I go down with it and wear dark pieces ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  6. LOVE the squash blossom top on you, Mae! Just gorgeous gorgeous on you! Oh and you know I understand about the posing – it’s so hard to want to look okay but not look like you take yourself so seriously (but how?! blogging seems so unintentionally egotistical sometimes doesn’t it?).
I would actually like some grayer skies in the ATL – the sun seems unrelenting these days. It makes me wish I had more gray in my wardrobe (I know I’ll be kicking myself for saying that once we’re in Scotland ;)).
