White paper on near-realtime data warehousing

The White Paper explores the concept of a ‘near to real-time data warehouse’ specifically from the point of view of replacing the traditional approach of lengthy overnight batch runs with short frequent incremental loads and thus taking the first steps towards a true real-time data warehouse. It develops an approach that can be applied not only to green-field data warehouse projects, but also to existing data warehouse developments from the point of view of minimising the latency between OLTP updates and the DW refresh. The approach leverages technology, tools and facilities that are already present in many data warehouse deployments, viz. Informatica PowerCenter and a DW built over an Oracle database. It is written primarily for IT technical personnel for the purpose of planning, designing, resourcing or maintaining a typical Data Warehouse environment

Integrating messaging infrastructures with the data warehouse using Mule ESB

This paper details the integration of a JMS messaging infrastructure with a data warehouse using Mule, the open source Enterprise Service Bus.

The example of a banking system is used to illustrate how the ESB can be harnessed to populate the staging area of the data warehouse during the message handling process. The paper follows the life of an order through a simplified trade lifecycle and shows how information is captured each time a message relating to the order flows across the bus.
