About The Cheriton Players

The Cheriton Players was formed in 1961 and has since put on well over 100 productions, nearly all of them in our very own Cheriton Village Hall which, although small, can seat 80 and has staged such large-scale shows as Salad Days, My Fair Lady, Oliver! and A Christmas Carol. The Players usually stage two shows a year – one in the autumn, one in the spring – but this varies a little depending on the type of show. For instance, in 2007 we produced Murder in Cheriton!, an open-air, all-day event where the ‘audience’ participated as much as the cast. We have done musicals with over 25 in the cast, costume plays such as Charley’s Aunt and Lock up Your Daughters, comedies like Outside Edge and Out of Order and even home-written material, sometimes as workshops like our ‘play in a day’ Parallel Lines, written and directed by Graham Cranmer.

We have an active core of about 40 members but are always on the lookout for people to join us, whether it is to direct, act, sing, play a musical instrument, organise costumes, design and build sets, help with lighting and sound, Front of House or publicity: there is a huge amount of work that goes into each and every performance and we always welcome new people to come along in whatever capacity – if this is of interest to you, or you would simply like to be put on our mailing list to be made aware of future productions, contact us now!
