Some of the things I’ve written, or edited

This is a really tiny selection of all the work I’ve done. Please keep checking back for updates as I manage to secure more electronic copies.

Tokyo Weekender

Tokyo Weekender

I have written a number of features for Tokyo’s popular English-language monthly magazine, mostly in the travel section – diving in Okinawa, a Naha city guide, Akita getaways, Ecotourism in Japan, where to see the Autumn leaves… Here are some examples:

Yanbaru: The Back Country

Falling for Koyo: Where You Can Still Find Autumn Leaves around Japan

Okinawan Cuisine: Mixing It Up and Keeping It Fresh

A feature article commissioned after the earthquakes in Japan, March 2011. The editor wanted a piece looking at how the Japanese people seemed to cope so calmly with the disaster and aftermath.

What the Dickens!

This is a piece of copywriting I did for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. It was used as part of a successful proposal for a fundraising event in London.

GOSHCC Challenges advertorial

A smaller, but no less important, piece of copywriting for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. This advert went inside a popular runners’ magazine to encourage London marathon participants to run for the charity. It was one of many such pieces of promotional copy I wrote for the charity.

Imagine

I wrote a number of articles for Thomson Airways’ inflight magazine, Imagine. The articles included celebrity interviews as well as travel features, advertorials and copy for smaller advertisements. Here is a sample, in jpeg format only. For pdf files, please  drop me a line and I’d be happy to send you a copy.

Roundabout

Roundabout is the monthly staff magazine of the world-famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London. While editor I oversaw a complete reshaping of this 32-page publication – introducing many new features, discarding the outdated and updating the look and feel.

Pioneer

I worked closely with the editor to write or copy edit, and therefore help shape, most of the stories for the first edition of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s Pioneer magazine.

Business Monthly

This was a monthly business supplement I edited and wrote for the Luton News, a paid-for weekly newspaper. It was in need of some love and attention when I took it over and during my time I oversaw a redesign and vastly updated its style and content – introducing new features and waving goodbye to the outdated.

 Letter from Jammu and Kashmir

This is a republished series of four feature articles that first featured in The Herald&Post, Luton and Dunstable. The articles were written following an invite from the Kashmir Bhavan Centre, Luton, to visit the war ravaged region. The trip took in Jammu, Kashmir and Delhi.

First Choice Weddings

I’ve written copy for a number of the UK’s leading travel companies’ brochures, including Thomson, First Choice and 2wentys – everything from introductions and tours to hotel descriptions. Here are just two of the introductions I wrote for First Choice’s Weddings brochure.

First Choice – Holiday Villages

This was one of the larger projects I did for First Choice. It involved a complete re-write, and re-design, of the company’s flagship family product, Holiday Villages.

A Question of Faith

This was a feature series about the various faith groups of Luton I wrote for the Herald&Post newspaper in 2005. I interviewed leading members from many of the religious groups, including Zoroastrians, Bahais, Jews, Hindus, Quakers, Jains, Muslims, Protestants and Sikhs. Sorry, I only have hard copies of this at the moment.
