San Jose
To many, San Jose is an utopian city, holding many astounding attributes and offering the type of life so many crave. To start with, the City of San Jose has the nation's best public safety record of any urban area, which is reason enough in itself to find yourself in this grand city. San Jose is situated approximately 390 miles north of Los Angeles and 50 miles south of San Francisco. It is the county seat of Santa Clara County and the center of an enlarging and expanding cosmopolitan area bordered by the Santa Cruz Mountains on the west and the Diablo Mountain range on the east. The city of San Jose lies near the San Andreas Fault, which runs a length of roughly 800 miles (1300 kilometers) through western and southern California. In 1839, 1851, 1858, 1864, 1865, 1868,1891, 1906, 1957 and 1989, San Jose saw itself host to significant earthquakes, the most damaging being the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, which devastated many buildings in San Jose. The climate of San Jose is generally quite temperate and rarely too extreme. Located as it is inland from the Bay of San Francisco, and lying within the protection of three mountains, rainfall is considerably less in San Jose than in other parts of the Bay Area. San Jose has an average rainfall of 14.4 inches; other parts of the Bay can get up to 4 times that amount. With a Mediterranean type climate, temperatures in January range between 42 °F (6 °C) and 59 °F (15 °C), and in July, one can expect temperatures between 58 °F (14 °C) and 84 °F (29 °C).
