The Niagara River is one of the world’s greatest sources of hydroelectric power. As early as the 1700s people have dreamed of how to harness the mighty power of the river. In 1759 Daniel Joncairs did just that when he constructed a small canal above the Falls and diverted enough water to a waterwheel that would power his sawmill.
