Obama Going Down in Flames and taking US with him; you wanted change… you got it

Mr Arrogant was handed the keys to Your Economy; enjoy Socialism, Obama Style

Mr Arrogant Socialist was handed the keys to Your Economy by the majority of American Voters who threw the dice and bet on a LOSER. Enjoy the Ride.

What is happening was forewarned and foretold all the way through the 2008 Presidential Primaries and the following post nomination campaign right up to the last day on Nov 3, 2008… but Nooo… the majority of US voters just had to go with Mr Smiley the Wealth Spreader …the no experience, excuse making, finger pointing, lying, flip-flopping, everyone is a racist, stealth Socialist, dumb ass who has more arrogance than your typical know-it-all 15 year old teenage boy driving the family dirigible on a joy ride to hell.

And, he not only has gotten himself in serious trouble… he is taking We the People with him as he goes down in flames.

I Told You So

The crux of the problem that created this economic mess was the collapse of the US housing market due to the Socialists like Barney Frank and ACORN bullying Fanny Mae, Freddy Mac, and other lending institutions into giving home loans to people who were high credit risks with no money down.

As these high risk borrowers began defaulting in droves on home loans, a domino effect went into very predictable action… which started driving down the value of homes owned by good credit risk borrowers coupled with interest only payment loans which adjusted their interest rates on the fly.

Suddenly homes were worth less than the loan values… people who before could have sold their homes now found themselves unable to do so. So… many of them were forced into foreclosure… further devaluing home values as buyers dried up.

Lower home values and empty homes meant loss of real estate tax revenues for cities and counties which was a negative effect on states. It escalated into mounting job losses… which further dried up tax dollars that otherwise goes into the Government bank account to pay for things the government does.

The Damn Socialists Created this Mess and blame it on the Conservatives… in their typical slime ball lying ways.

Well… The Socialists and their Enchanted One were given carte blanche control of the Government to fix Your Economy. They have been in control of Congress for going on three years and over six months in the White House.

And in a typical brainless clueless Socialist way, the Socialists have been  throwing gasoline on the fire and driving the tax payers into further and further tax debt… borrowed money that has astronomical interest payments and it has to be paid off. And none of the near one trillion dollars ramrodded through congress is even making a dent in the continuing housing collapse… and job loss is headed to 11% to 13%.

Things are going to hell and it is fault of Obama and the other Socialists.

Lets see what is being reported over at Politico.com, shall we????

White House’s $50B foreclosure plan a bust so far

by Victoria McGrane | 7/17/09 8:53 PM EDT
Politico.com

obama notice to vacate evict all

The Obama administration’s $50 billion program to curb foreclosures isn’t working, and the White House knows it.

Administration officials blame the mortgage servicers charged with carrying out the mortgage modifications and refinancing under the federal program. Many of their Democratic allies on Capitol Hill back them up, but others are criticizing the White House for fumbling the execution. Whatever the reason, the program hasn’t stopped the rising tide of foreclosures: Experts predict that at least another 2 million homes will be lost this year, and the administration’s plan has so far reached only about 160,000 of the 3 million to 4 million homes it was supposed to protect over the next three years.

That’s bad news for the economy — and bad news for the Democrats.

The Democrats’ political and policy fortunes rest on their ability to persuade voters that they’re fixing the economy. But experts say that rising foreclosures will only exacerbate the nation’s economic woes, pushing down home prices, slashing state and local tax revenues and imperiling consumer confidence.

“Everybody understands that getting out of this broader crisis requires that we stabilize our housing market and stem the tide of foreclosures,” Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) said in a hearing Thursday. But in unusually harsh words for a Democrat, Dodd said that the Obama administration’s progress in stopping foreclosures has been “disgraceful” so far.

“It’s just hard to explain to the working families in America how it is we could move so fast with extraordinarily complicated deals with the huge financial institutions, and we are moving so incredibly slowly, mired in paperwork, in rules, in talking to banks back home,” said Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.).

The foreclosure listing service RealtyTrac Inc. reported Thursday that the number of homeowners in foreclosure in the first six months of 2009 was up 15 percent from the same time period a year ago.

The Center for Responsible Lending, a nonpartisan research and policy organization, projects at least 2.4 million additional foreclosure starts this year, causing nearly 70 million surrounding households to lose a combined $500 billion in property value.

The group estimates there will be 9 million foreclosures through the end of 2012, at the cost of $2 trillion in lower home values — enough to pay for the House Democrats’ health care plan, twice.

The White House realizes the stakes. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan took the 27 participating servicers to task in a July 9 letter to their CEOs, telling them to add more staff, improve training, create an appeal path for borrowers dissatisfied with the service and fulfill other measures to do more modifications, better.

The servicers were told to designate a liaison with the administration who will meet with Treasury and HUD on July 28. The servicers have to tell the administration by July 23 what specific steps they’re taking to improve performance.

In addition, the administration announced that next month it will start publishing company-by-company results, including how many modifications each servicer has made and how quickly. At the least, that will give policymakers ammunition to shame recalcitrant lenders.

“We think that that type of disclosure, servicer-by-servicer, will be important to spurring greater activity on their part,” Herbert Allison, assistant treasury secretary for financial stability, told Dodd’s committee.

But assurances that the administration is paying attention were not enough to satisfy senators on either sides of the aisle — and Republicans are ready to make the case that slow progress on the foreclosure front is just one more example of the Obama administration overpromising and overspending.

“I see these extravagant promises in just about everything that happens here, … and then I see this terrible execution,” said Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.). “The stimulus money isn’t getting out, you’re not getting on top of the foreclosure numbers, you know, and that has nothing to do with what you inherited. Execution is what you do every day.”

VF, I bet it feels great to be able to say “I told you so” lol

I love how all the blame for the housing crisis is put on the lawmakers and lenders; the poor homeowners who borrowed frivously are somehow innocent victims. Guess what? Just because someone offers to lend me 100 grand doesn’t mean I should. Noone but I can really tell me what I can borrow responsibly. I know what I can afford and what I cannot.

If a man beats his wife with a baseball bat, why don’t we just blame the store owner who sold him the bat?

  3. rosehips says:

and while I feel sorry for homeowners who lose their homes, they were not really homeowners, but wannabes. It’s so American to want so much. Is it our right to own a home? You’d think so by listening to the typical American. Obama is perpetuating this ideal when he talks as if we all deserve to own homes. I don’t buy that garbage. If you can’t afford a home, you should rent one. There should be absolutely no shame in that. I don’t feel ashamed for being a renter. I could care less. I would feel ashamed if I bought a house I couldn’t afford and then got foreclosed on. I do feel for people in that situation, but I sure don’t want my taxes to go to bailing them out.

Rose, if people are bad credit risks… it usually means they are irresponsible. …rare is the case of just plan bad luck.

And yes… the socialist “everyone deserves to own a house” so lets force banks to make toxic loans is at the bottom of this who fing mess.

And the blame lies at the feet of the Socialists… like Barney Frank and ACORN.

There is not getting out of it… that is what happened.

  6. VotingFemale says:

And I did warn of all this… many many many times blogging at iReport. The trail is there for all to read and see… “I told you so” might help the next time the majority of voters are presented a Socialist Pig in a Poke… like what happened this time.

Could have had Hillary… but NOOOOOOO

Got to go with that DICK HEAD OBAMA

  7. rosehips says:

vf, I doubt that anyone put a gun to the heads of the borrowers who thought they deserved that $350,000 house even though they couldn’t afford it.

I think we’d be much better off investing in renovations to all those 4000+ sq. ft homes that were built to satiate the American dream. Let those who made bad financial decisions learn to live within their means. It will help us to become energy independent too if people live in smaller dwellings. I am personally sick of the wastefulness of our society.

  8. samiam60 says:

Great post this morning VF. I too am so sick and tired of hearing the same liberal vomit day after day. The media is now a sea of this high and lofty feel good vomit. It is getting old and the American People are waking up to the illusions of the left.
Americans are coming back to the real world we all live in and facing the facts concerning our current situation. dalibama’s poll numbers are a reflection of that and we will see sweeping changes in our government in 2010.
The Truth and Common Sense shall prevail in America. Make no mistake about it. 🙂

PS: Rose I feel the same way about my tax dollars being used to fund abortions for irresponsible adults as you do about the foreclosure crisis.

  9. rosehips says:

Well some of us warned that getting into war would cost us dearly and would be difficult to win and would have questionable results. Look how much we are spending on the two wars? I’m glad that Saddam was captured but part of the reason our economy is crippled is because of the heavy costs of war. But still there are those who say we need to spend ourselves into oblivion because it protects our freedom. Everytime someone tells me that invading Iraq and spending billions was a good idea because it perserved our freedom, I want to puke. Saddam was a tyrant but his threat to America was so overrated that it is no more than a joke to say that he would have destroyed us if we hadn’t invaded. What an expensive mistake we are paying for.

  10. rosehips says:

sami, I understand your issue with abortion and why you don’t want your taxes to pay for them. I am all for those who oppose funding abortions to pay extra to raise the unwanted babies that are brought into this world. Be prepared for a hefty raise in your taxes as the costs on the system to bring drug addicted and handicapped children is quite high, especially if you will not have government assistance to help pay for health care.

Sami, what are you doing to help prevent unwanted pregnancies (besides staying home on the weekends)? I really think that if all the anti abortion protestors spent more time helping to prevent pregnancies, we could prevent a great burden on society.

and btw, did you do your stand-up routine in Cleveland last night?

  11. samiam60 says:

Awh Rose you most likely would have felt the same way when the US declared war on Japan and Germany. That also cost us alot of money and even worse the cost of the lives of our brave soldiers. Our volunteers military protectors must see things differently than you. They are risking their lives to ensure we are not attacked again by terrorists or anyone else. If they are getting discouraged in anyway it is because your president is disarming Americas ability to defend itself from any form of aggression.

  12. samiam60 says:

Rose, just for your information my Daughter and her husband adopted 5 children from one drug addict mom. Two of the children are bi-racial. YES, I would gladly support financially any program that would give unborn children a chance at life period.

On the comedy club I had just finished writing a comment on last night when my power flickered out and came back on. Rose you will be happy to know the liberals bit#h slapped me in a special way and banned my 8 minuets of fame after reading my material before I got on. Seems there were numberous complaints last month and so I am on a probation until I can clean up my material. Freedom of speech does not apply to private business’s.

    Rose, that hurt. 😦

  14. SamHenry says:

Oh, my – I am disoriented. Was blogging away on the last blog. I clicked on the new link, read the new post but clicked on my old link and went back to the past.

You missed all of my discussion about how Obama did a snow job – even on Santa who will now have to produce evidence he meets specifications for licensing to go down chimneys; that his workshop meets space, cleanliness and doughnut specs and that he has maintained the deer properly and that he is licensed to drive them.

Rose – re people with eyes wide open getting mortgages. I suspect that there were many people who are not sophisticated in these matters who were encouraged to sign on the dotted line unaware that they were borderline risks. A lot of the time, agents have to meet quotas, do they not?

I was sold a below prime home improvement loan that improved the home so much, that the bank will make money selling it out from under me if I can’t make it.

  15. rosehips says:

sami, I have no problem with trying to ensure that we are not attacked by terrorists. I think that invading every country that may be harboring them is not a very efficient way to do it. Thousands of innocent people get killed and the results are questionable. People say that Bush has kept our country safe since 9/11 but there is really no way to prove that. The truth is that Americans are a self righteous bunch of idiot pigs and this is why we are hated by so many world-wide.

Now doesn’t that just make you want to vomit?

  16. samiam60 says:

Rose the United States of America has not been attacked by terrorist since 9/11/2001.
    There is your Proof.

  17. SamHenry says:

Speaking of lenders and lawyers – did you all see Beck’s diagram of how Goldman Sachs was able to pull of a run up in profits? I had no idea that the brokerage/banking regulation area is awash in former Goldman Sachs employees.

  18. karmahd says:

Ah Haaa! VF you have hit the nail on the head about the current crisis. Being on the front lines of the housing boom since 1983, and still employed I can tell you all that the borrowers were equally responsible for this mess. The secondary market, IE; where all mortgages or most were sold was “allowed” by the regulators and all the checks and balances that WERE in place during this whole debacle fully knew what was going on, and due to the fact that it was driving our economy did not really make any effort to stop the lending practices.

Now here is were the problem has come to the forefront, this was an easy, (but costly) fix to all the problems brought on by the housing crash. But rather than fix the problem, the new administration used this crisis to expand and spend for there pet programs. So rather than fix the issue and get our economy back on track, the democrats opened the cash box or as Al Gore used to say “little black box” and started spending like drunk pimps, because, one they held both the house and senate, had a newly elected president, had a team of media experts who could spin the problem to get what they wanted. So the had the tools to fix the issue, but choose not to, in an effort to leverage there pet programs.

Now is not the time for politics, and it is time for our government to serve the people, that is not happening, it is pure political opportunism, and is wrong, and choosing this path rather than the path of the people will hurt us, but in the long run will bury the democratic party for decades to come!!!

  19. SamHenry says:

    Morning Sami:

I agree with Rose about Iraq only. Saddam no matter how bad kept the Iranians in check. I don’t think they would have the atomic bomb now with him in place.

  20. SamHenry says:

Morning Karm. Excellent analysis. Santa would be proud.

  21. rosehips says:

Sami, sorry that I wrote that. It was insensitive. I guess I am just a bitter and repressed middle aged woman who needs to get laid. I better leave now before I do any more damage to my already tarnished liberal reputation.

Maybe it would be better for me to stay away from this blog unless I can play nice.

    sami said: Rose says:

  22. karmahd says:

As to how America is viewed by the rest of the world did you ever think in all the negativity that is thrown at our Nation it was due to jealousy. We are and have been on top of the food chain for century’s, we have wealth, we have driven the world economy. People from all walks of life might criticize the US but damn if they all don’t want to come here and experience freedom!!

As to no attacks since 911, that is true, it is documented, and the efforts of the past administration were solely focused on that end goal. In time and with the current switch of focus on building a social nation, efforts to offer this protection will go by the wayside, and we WILL be attacked again, mark my words!!

  23. samiam60 says:

No harm done Rose at all. Don’t leave as I do rather enjoy your inputs. Just because I don’t agree don’t mean I don’t gain insights from your views. Stay baby stay.

  24. SamHenry says:

Rose – aren’t you overreacting to Sami’s response. Don’t leave. Go to the conference room. Your miserable old middle aged woman etc. remark will resound in cyberspace and you could come under cyber attack.

  25. samiam60 says:

Rose you have a passion for what you believe as do we. It is good for us to be friends inspite of our different views and beliefs. This is exactly what has made America a melting pot of diversity.

  26. rosehips says:

thanks sami and sh. I will not leave indefinitely. I must get my assignment out of the way that is due tonight. Then I will come back and torment you all once again. Thank you for allowing me to vent and I apologize to anyone who I offend. It’s all just a bunch of rhetoric, I hope you are aware. I don’t think any of your are idiot pigs. Well, at least not most of you. lol

This is very true, K. And it is also true that other nations were jealous of us. They also thought us rather inexperienced since only being top of the food chain since post WWII.

Sad to have to say goodbye. I have dogs pulling at my pant leg to get me to give them food. I also have many home errands.

Helicopter summoned by Dog lowers basket and dog reluctantly jumps in. Dog whisked away to home for reasons stated above plus rest!

I have sent VF a “hugs and smooches” blanket of roses from Teleflora as well….

  36. rosehips says:

and one last thing. Yes other countries envy our freedoms. They have done so since our inception. I don’t think they envied our slaves or the original inhabitants of this bountiful land. We chose to build this country with slave labor and to delegate the most marginal land to the natives. We chose to treat the land as a limitless source of abundance with little regard for waste or desecration. Even when we witnessed the devastating impacts of human activity in other parts of the world, we saw endless opportunities to exploit our land for its resources. Now that the end is in sight, we find it difficult to face up to reality. We don’t have much more time on this planet, imo. I think the next few years will be very telling about our society. I hope that good will will triumph over evil. I will continue to have faith that somehow it will.

  37. SamHenry says:

Karm, let me know if the Teleflora roses “Hugs and Smooches” blanket arrives and if it fits.

My tower climbers won’t show till 1:00 so I have time.

“It will help us to become energy independent too if people live in smaller dwellings. I am personally sick of the wastefulness of our society.”

    1) we don’t have an energy problem, we have people who won’t let us drill for our own energy problem.

    2) if we have so much energy (and we do), why can’t I waste it, if it puts someone to work? I pay the bills.

    3) should I give up my big paid for house because “it’s the right thing to do” in someone’s opinion?

  39. SamHenry says:

FOX I will delay departure to talk awhile.

Point 1) That is correct. We need to drill to help survive. I had heard that even with that oil, we could not make it. Is that true?

    2) If we have it, we can waste it because it will put preople to work. Letting companies go to conferences at fancy hotels will also keep people at work.

    3) No one should legally or informally discredit your hosing choice. You have made it energy efficient. You have done all you need to do. This is still a democracy. It would be nonsense to tear down and rebuild.

  40. SamHenry says:

FOX – will be right back for a few

  41. Foxwood says:

“I don’t think they envied our slaves or the original inhabitants of this bountiful land.”

Their children are doing much better than their forefathers. That still doesn’t make it right, but bad things happen in all countries. We still have the best. Won’t be that way long with socialism in waiting.

  42. karmahd says:

With Freedom comes responsibility, our nation has not always made the best choices, in fact many choices can be NOW viewed as outright failure of human nature and the following of any acceptable morals. But when those mistakes have been made they have done so by our lovely government, ostensibly for the good of the people, not unlike now with the choices being made by or so called leaders. What has defined us as a people/Nation is we can pull together in a time of crisis and make our own decisions based on the freedom that was established for us by our Founding Fathers, who in reality were a bunch of hemp smoking radicals, but the cause was pure.

It all boils down to the Pessimistic or Optimistic view of human nature, and where the balance of this conundrum lies in the middle. Our current group of politicians on both sides of the isle are not making choices for the people, they are pandering to there bases, and hedging what they can gain by either supporting or opposing any new legislation. Gone are the time of the true statesman, this is the age of the opportunist politician, my path is to do everything in my power to hold these individuals accountable for there lies, and expose there nature for what it is, POLITICS, for self gain and profit!

Step away from all the rhetoric and see the true game is how can both sides fool the people into letting them control the world…Not on my watch!!!

  43. Foxwood says:

“Doom and gloom. The end is near.” That won’t fix things. Our country isn’t dead yet, and our resources aren’t gone. The US has more resources than we know what to do with. We can’t use them because our socialist politicians who listen to enviro-wackos won’t let us use them. We can still be great, just by going back to what made us great.

We still have everything we had back when, but the will. Our lose of will has come to us from the progressive teaching of the last 60 years. We are not destroying ourselves, but I do think politicians wouldn’t be upset if there were only 2 million people on earth and may be setting up a way to rid of “undesirables”.

If there is any doom scenario, It will be natural disaster or someone with a rogue nuke. My well informed opinion.

  44. Foxwood says:

“You have made it energy efficient. You have done all you need to do. This is still a democracy.”

It’s a hundred year old house. I’m making it efficient. A work in progress. I don’t waste on purpose and do try to cut costs, but someone does work at the electric and gas companies, and I’m sure they don’t mind having a job.

  45. Foxwood says:

“Step away from all the rhetoric and see the true game is how can both sides fool the people into letting them control the world…Not on my watch!!!”

Well said. It has been both sides for the last few decades. They think we are stupid. They hope we are stupid. It’s not stupidity, it’s ignorance, and most of us are ignorant.

  46. Foxwood says:

I got to step away from the keyboard also. I have to get stuff done before I go to work.

  47. SamHenry says:

FOX – I live in a house built in 1910. All new Pella windows, all new wiring put 220 in the barn) new kitch, new bath downstairs, and new ceilings throughout. Planted lots of trees to shade house in summer. Obama’s been getting tickish here lately. He’s talking a lot ot trash in a threatening tone. He’s got a vindictive dangerous streak in him. He was the one who allowed those babies to be laid on the table to die. What does this tell you about his character?

I truly believe that Obama is so spiteful that he will trump up charges on legislatures (Scooter Libby treatment) if they vote against him. He tried to black mail Kyl. & no doubt he’s got Chanbliss in his sights. He is low down & dirty enough to hold us hostage to get what he wants.

VF, I will go further to say that the low down & dirtiness of Obama will sink to an unconscionable depth by using that captive soldier as hostage to get what he wants.

The original Illinois Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2001-2002

(opposed by state Senator Barack Obama):

    SB1095 / SB 1662

AN ACT concerning infants who are born alive.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Statute on Statutes is amended by adding Section 1.36 as follows:

    (5 ILCS 70/1.36 new)

    Sec. 1.36. Born-alive infant.

    (a) In determining the meaning of any statute or of any rule, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative agencies of this State, the words “person”, “human being”, “child”, and “individual” include every infant member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any stage of development.

    (b) As used in this Section, the term “born alive”, with respect to a member of the species homo sapiens, means the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of that member, at any stage of development, who after that expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion.

    (c) A live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate protection under the law.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.

    Midnight essay:

Michael Jackson and the end of Excess in America

When Michael Jackson Died, it was probably a watershed for the American Psyche. He surrounded himself with mystery, magic, glitz to assuage his self-absorption and excessive pursuit of pleasure. Since his death, we have come to know that he was his own mythmaker in a lot of what he did to market himself and his world. Because he was all of these things, he was hard to really grasp. When he died, I believe many of us were caught unaware not at his loss but by trying to grapple with just what was lost. We were obviously moved but how? Why? In the past two years, our country has been on a slow slide to a depth we could not conceive. But Michael Jackson leaving – that was the period on the end of the sentence. No star alive today evokes a whole world when he stages a show; a whole world when he creates a home. He knew that America still identified with things large and excessive. As a result, we were forced to create a whole world of ceremonies large enough to encompass his memory.
And so, like him or not, an important American Icon is no more and we cannot linger and obsess over his passing – much as the media would like us to. We must get back to work or to worry. Not even the wealthiest among us can rest easily these days- not because of what may be lost materially but because a global sense of well being has been shattered.
We are trying to rebuild, to reform but we will never restore. It will never be the same again. We go on with more modest dreams, with stark realities driving us and with hope struggling to stay alive. All of America is in the trenches fighting the economic and societal wars of the 21st century. There is no escape. There is no longer a home front and a warfront. It is the same. One could wish we could bring the soldiers home to join us in a kind of group session to try to put our nation back together in a way that would make the founding fathers say “ah, yes, they have found the Constitution still be true” and the youngest among us could feel it truly relevant.
All of the reforms we face are worthy IF properly and practically financed and responsibilities for and participation in equalized. Too much today we hear “rich” “white” “black” “Latina” – and emotions rise – why? Because in these turbulent times of recasting the U.S. society and economy, we are all afraid someone will get our share or more of a share than they should have. Fear of loss, over eagerness to take over – all are things we need to consider and address.
You can legislate to move things along mechanically; you must move with care to move things along emotionally so that all of the human pieces fall comfortably into place. To not take enough time for this, to disregard the import of this will be to fan the flames of civil disobedience.

  123. vigilocanis says:

President Obama’s recent attempt at throwing the baseball was a metaphor for his performance as president. While the media focuses on his style, he is attempting to take us from free market capitalism to statism or European socialism.

    From vigilocanis come this report
    http://vigilocanis.wordpress.com/2009/07/17/and-pitching-baraaaaaaaak-ooooooooobama/

He walked to the baseball diamond with his trademark graceful stride, cool and confident, wide smile, and brimming with charisma.

He looked impeccable walking to the White House podium;he was poised to pitch each program. His pitches were the change up, fast ball, and curve ball, better known as….bail out, take over, and Stimulus. But journalists only wanted to know which tie was he wearing with that handsome tailored suit. “He’s so Jack Kennedy” and; “Look, he doesn’t even sweat!”

The baseball crowd was mesmerized by his Dontrelle Willis style wind up, hands held high over his head, the big leg kick; they never once doubting his ability to deliver. Besides, he’s so cool.

And after all, isn’t presentation half the battle?

……Then the release. The ball left his strong left hand like ink left his pen signing bills for each give away .
The ball, the bailout, the Stimulus bucks;… they flew.

All had confidence that this god, that many had come to worship, would deliver both a 95 mile per hour fast ball and a 6 month fast economic recovery, straight over home plate, with his perfect follow through.

    He delivered neither.

The pitcher and president delivered a pathetic T-ball lob that only a skilled catcher could rescue from landing in the dirt. The public, rapidly losing hope, is wondering who will rescue the country before it hits the ground.

The crowd immediately looked wistfully to bull pen, for a new pitcher, a new team…. a new hero.

They were tired of the blue team. They never won the big one. Only broken promises and crushed dreams, they could deliver.

They had expected too much and paid too greatly for their tickets. They want their money back. But alas, the bank is closed.

Retired general, lieutenant colonel join reservist’s lawsuit over Obama’s birth status
General, lieutenant colonel join suit similar to 2 already thrown out
    By Lily Gordon – lgordon@ledger-enquirer.com

A controversial suit brought by a U.S. Army reservist has been joined by a retired Army two-star general and an active reserve Air Force lieutenant colonel.

Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook filed the suit July 8 in federal court here asking for conscientious objector status and a preliminary injunction based upon his belief that President Barack Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as president of the United States and commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.

However, before the issue got to court, Cook’s orders to deploy to Afghanistan were revoked. Lt. Col. Maria Quon, a public affairs officer with the U.S. Army Human Resources Command-St. Louis, said Tuesday that Cook was no longer expected to report Wednesday to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida for mobilization to active duty. Cook, who claims he is now the victim of retaliation due to his suit, received his mobilization orders to report for active duty at MacDill on Wednesday. From there, he was to go to Fort Benning on Saturday for deployment to Afghanistan.

    March 2009 dismissal of complaint
    October 2008 dismissal of complaint
Soldier balks at deploying; says Obama isn’t president
Soldier who says Obama isn’t president doesn’t have to deploy, Army says
Cook is an Individual Mobilization Augmentee. This means he’s a reserve soldier assigned to an active component unit consisting of active duty soldiers instead of a reserve unit, which is composed entirely of reserve soldiers. He is assigned to the U.S. Army Element of U.S. Southern Command.

Last week, Cook filed a request in federal court seeking a temporary restraining order and status as a conscientious objector represented by California attorney Orly Taitz.

The government, in its response to the suit, claims that Cook’s suit is “moot” in that he already has been told he doesn’t have to go to Afghanistan, so the relief he is seeking has been granted.

“The Commanding General of SOCCENT (U.S. Special Operations Central Command) has determined that he does not want the services of Major Cook, and has revoked his deployment orders,” the response states.

In a pleading revised after the revocation of Cook’s orders, Taitz argues that the application for preliminary injunction is not moot and that retired Maj. Gen. Carol Dean Childers and active U.S. Air Force reservist Lt. Col. David Earl Graeff have joined the suit “because it is a matter of unparalleled public interest and importance and because it is clearly a matter arising from issues of a recurring nature that will escape review unless the Court exercises its discretionary jurisdiction.”

Cook’s resubmitted Application for Preliminary Injunction is meant to encompass the possibility of Cook receiving future orders for deployment as well as to address and prevent “negative collateral consequences such as retaliation against Major Stefan Frederick Cook …”

As to the retaliation issue, the revised suit states Cook lost his job at Simtech Inc., a corporation that does Department of Defense contracting in the field of information technology/systems integration, because of the suit. It also states that Cook has been subjected to “gossip” from people who believed Cook was “manipulating his deployment orders to create a platform for political purposes.”

Taitz, who has challenged the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency in other courts, filed the original suit with the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Two similar suits have previously been thrown out of federal court.

In the filing, Cook states he “would be acting in violation of international law by engaging in military actions outside the United States under this President’s command. … simultaneously subjecting himself to possible prosecution as a war criminal by the faithful execution of these duties.”

A hearing to discuss Cook’s requests is scheduled to take place in federal court here this morning at 9:30 a.m.

Governors worried by healthcare bill costs
Say states could get new Medicaid burden

BILOXI, Miss. – The nation’s governors, Democrats as well as Republicans, voiced deep concern yesterday about the shape of the healthcare bill emerging from Congress, fearing that the federal government is about to hand them expensive new Medicaid obligations without providing the money to pay for them.

The role of the states in a restructured healthcare system dominated the summer meeting of the National Governors Association here this weekend – with bipartisan animosity voiced against the Obama administration’s plan during a closed-door luncheon Saturday and in a private meeting yesterday afternoon with the secretary of health and human services, Kathleen Sebelius.

“I think the governors would all agree that what we don’t want from the federal government is unfunded mandates,’’ said Governor Jim Douglas of Vermont, a Republican who is the group’s incoming chairman. “We can’t have the Congress impose requirements that we are forced to absorb beyond our capacity to do so.’’

The governors’ backlash creates yet another healthcare headache for the Obama administration, which has tried to recruit state leaders to pressure members of Congress to wrap up their fitful negotiations. In its effort to win support for the health plan, the administration dispatched Sebelius – who was governor of Kansas before she joined the cabinet in April – and the federal Medicaid chief, Cindy Mann, to meet here with the governors. Meanwhile, other administration officials spent yesterday pushing the proposal on television talk shows.

President Obama also plans to address questions about his health plan at a news conference Wednesday.

Although many governors said significant change was needed, they said their deep-seated fiscal troubles made it a terrible time to shift costs to the states. With the recession draining states of tax revenues even as their Medicaid rolls are surging, the National Governors Association projects that states will face aggregate deficits of $200 billion over the next three years.

Because the states and the federal government share the cost of Medicaid coverage for low-income people, any increase in eligibility levels, benefits, or payments to doctors would impose new costs on the states unless Washington agrees to absorb them entirely. In at least one of several bills circulating in Congress, the states would eventually pick up a share of the new costs, and the governors fear they cannot count on pledges in other bills that they will be held harmless.

It was unclear whether the governors’ association would put together a statement expressing its dismay, at least partly because half of the governors did not attend. Many, including the group’s chairman, Governor Edward G. Rendell, a Pennsylvania Democrat, stayed home to deal with budget crises.

Some of the group’s most recognizable names – Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, Sarah Palin of Alaska, Charlie Crist of Florida, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, David Paterson of New York, Jennifer M. Granholm of Michigan, and Mark Sanford of South Carolina – were not here.Continued

POLL: Obama Faces Trouble on Stimulus and Deficit

Rising doubts about the economic stimulus program, broad concern about the federal deficit and tepid support for President Obama’s health care efforts are softening his popularity – and giving the still-struggling Republicans a glimmer of hope ahead.

Doubts about the stimulus and the deficit are softening Obama’s popularity.
(Getty Images)While 56 percent of Americans still think Obama’s approach will improve the economy, that’s down sharply from a peak of 72 percent when he took office. With the deficit in mind, six in 10 oppose the additional stimulus spending the administration has suggested. And views of Obama as a “tax-and-spend Democrat” – the perception that dogged Bill Clinton in his early days – have gained 11 points since March.

More than Clinton, though, Obama is following the early course charted by Ronald Reagan, the last president to take office in the teeth of a recession. Reagan’s job approval rating fell to 57 percent near his six-month mark; Obama’s is nearly the same, 59 percent in this ABC News/Washington Post poll, down 10 points from his springtime peak. The bigger concern for Obama is what came next: Reagan weakened further as the economy struggled, bottoming out at 48 percent approval after his first year in office and 42 percent at the end of his second year, shortly after unemployment hit 10.8 percent, its highest since the 1940s. It’s 9.5 percent now.

That history explains the urgency with which Obama’s pushing a range of issues, notably health care; until the economy heads up, his popularity is likely to continue down.

One measure of what may lie ahead is a shift toward political neutrality: In this survey the number of Americans identifying themselves as independents, as opposed to either Democrats or Republicans, has tied its record high in ABC/Post polling since 1981.

ISSUES – Obama remains popular personally and far ahead of the Republicans in trust to handle specific issues, but it’s his own ratings for handling those issues where his challenges show best. Barely over half, 52 percent, now approve of his work on the economy, down 8 points from its peak. Just under half, 49 percent, approve of his handling of health care, also down 8. And fewer, 43 percent, approve of his handling of the deficit, with 49 percent disapproving – only the second issue on which more have disapproved than approved of Obama’s work. (The first was the automaker bailout.)

Intensity is running against the president on these issues as well. For the first time more people “strongly” disapprove of his work on the economy than strongly approve, 35 percent vs. 29 percent. Ditto on health care, 33 percent vs. 25 percent. And on the deficit, strong disapprovers now outnumber strong approvers by 2-1, 38 percent vs. 19 percent.

Another issue illustrates the president’s better possibilities: Despite rising casualties, 62 percent approve of his handling of the situation in Afghanistan, a far less partisan rating than his others, and with intensity running for him rather than against.

I would like to add a few other points about BHO. In addition to the FACT that he was never qualified to be President for MANY reasons, he immediately took office and began to show Americans that SUPPORTED HIM that he was a liar and a thief. Yet, they continue to blindly follow him. Satan is very busy these days. He knows he only has a limited amount of time left to work these last days on this earth. BHO is being used as a puppet by those who are even more EVIL than he is. He is just an ambitious black man who has been GROOMED by those evil people to do their bidding. Does that make him smart?

Who am I to say what his biggest mistake has been so far? I will not be a judge of his personal character. I will keep those thoughts to myself. But the big thing I feel, of all the HUGE insults he has committed upon the Americans and the USA, is the atrocity of telling the Nation of Israel that they CAN or CANNOT continue to build on their own land! This will bring BHO to his knees. By this very act, he is committing an act of war against God. It is a fact that anyone who takes a stand against Israel has come to no good, in some way or another. Watch and see what happens to BHO as a result of this.

We may not KNOW that whatever happens to him “comes from God” but I will know. I predict that BHO will NOT FINISH HIS PRESIDENCY. Controversial statement? Stupid statement? No, just my opinion.

Just off the press – found on Drudg original source Breitbart:

WASHINGTON (AP) – The chairman of the Republican Party on Monday called President Barack Obama’s plan to overhaul health care “socialism,” accusing the president of conducting a risky experiment that will hurt the economy and force millions to drop their current coverage.

Michael Steele, in remarks at the National Press Club, also said the president, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and key congressional committee chairmen are part of a “cabal” that wants to implement government-run health care.

“Obama-Pelosi want to start building a colossal, closed health care system where Washington decides. Republicans want and support an open health care system where patients and doctors make the decisions,” Steele said.

Asked if Obama’s health care plan represented socialism, Steele responded: “Yes. Next question.”

Oprah’s Ratings Plummet To All-Time Low

    Say it isn’t so, O!

Ratings for ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show‘ for the July 4th week were her lowest since 1983. This is no fluke however, as Oprah’s numbers have been dropping significantly (32 percent) in the last five years.

What is the reason for the reigning Queen of Daytime’s sharp decline in popularity? In a New York Post article, analyst Marc Berman of Mediaweek said, “There’s the fatigue factor. Oprah’s been on the air for two decades. She can last for as long as she wants to last. But it gets to the point where fans might be getting a little tired of her show.”

And yes, Oprah is in repeats now, and yes, it was a holiday week and Michael Jackson’s death was omnipresent on TV, but still, Oprah’s show garnered only 4 million viewers on average the July 4th week. In contrast, ‘Judge Judy,’ which was also in repeats, pulled in on average 5.1 million viewers.

Will Oprah rebound in the fall when she’s back with new episodes? The smart money would say yes, but still, the downward trend in her show the last few years is troubling. Berman went on to say, “Oprah is still, by and large, TV’s top talk show and the show itself is still healthy. She still owns bragging rights to the genre. But she’s not the force she used to be.”

M2 I agree much is just from the source you describe. The rest has a lot of truth.

    Dog overboard

  162. m2 says:

The three dozen or so people that Barack Obama has surrounded himself with to handle this problem or that issue, and yet are not confirmed by the Senate or operating an agency created by Congress, are not really his “czars.” These people are, instead, his “commissars.” Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany both called those vague, undefined figures appointed by the Leader to carry out his intentions “commissars” (Hollywood never speaks of Nazi commissars for the same reason that it never notes that Nazi Party members called each other “comrade” – the pretense that Nazis and Bolsheviks were polar opposites rather than identical twins is too vital a myth to dispel.)

…This is very dangerous. The leader, in this case Obama, becomes more than the office itself. The structure of government morphs into the structure of the party. Stalin, in large measure, did not wield his awful power as the head of the Soviet Union or chief of the Soviet government: he did, in fact, often brag that he was simply a member of the Communist Party, an ordinary Soviet citizen. Hitler did combine the offices of Chancellor and President, but his real power was as leader of the Nazi Party, not an official of the German government.

When separate parts of government blend together, when rules of procedure are simply bypassed, when the distinction between political parties operating within government are transformed into political parties (through a system of commissars) operating as the government, then any nation with established, stable, and republican institutions has entered a very deadly phase.

The patterns are already ominously clear. Legislators, quite literally, vote for legislation not yet written (which rather sounds like Hitler’s Enabling Act.) Judicial nominees make only the vaguest pretense of adhering to ideals of impartial administration of justice (Hispanic Justice and Aryan Justice may sound different to some people, but they are not.) Now commissars are replacing cabinet secretaries — and we should stop letting Obama define the changes. He is not appointing dozens of “czars.” He is creating a party-state system of political commissars.

  163. SamHenry says:

OOps – dog was on shore. Can’t trust some dogs.

  164. m2 says:

hey SH, well I agree with that!

SH says: The only part of the piece I disagreed with was the quote I highlighted. That’s a veiled confirmation that he will be killed by god or someone. We don’t need that.

$23.7 Trillion to Fix Financial System?
In New Report, Neil Barofsky Says It’s Possible Government Could Spend $23.7 Trillion to Fix Financial System

The total potential federal government support could reach up to $23.7 trillion,” says Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, in a new report obtained Monday by ABC News on the government’s efforts to fix the financial system.

    Yes, $23.7 trillion.

“The potential financial commitment the American taxpayers could be responsible for is of a size and scope that isn’t even imaginable,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. “If you spent a million dollars a day going back to the birth of Christ, that wouldn’t even come close to just $1 trillion — $23.7 trillion is a staggering figure.”

Granted, Barofsky is not saying that the government will definitely spend that much money. He is saying that potentially, it could.

At present, the government has about 50 different programs to fight the current recession, including programs to bail out ailing banks and automakers, boost lending and beat back the housing crisis.

DeficitTreasury Dispute with Bailout Watchdog Stems from AIG Bonus AuditBarofsky’s estimate means that if each federal agency spends the maximum potential amount involved in these 50 different initiatives — if the Federal Reserve ends up spending $6.8 trillion on its programs. If the Treasury Department spends $4.4 trillion, if the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation spends $2.3 trillion, and so on — then the numbers add up to a total of $23.7 trillion.

That figure, Barofsky notes, is designed to “suggest the scale and scope of these efforts and not to provide a firm financial statement.” It is not a figure that has been evaluated to give an estimate of likely net costs to the American taxpayer. “The actual potential for losses,” he says, “is likely to be lower.”

But in his new quarterly report to Congress that will be released Tuesday, the watchdog warns that hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars could be lost if the government does not make certain changes to these programs. The Treasury Department, he cautions, needs to increase the transparency of the $700 billion TARP program, which he says has grown to an unprecedented scope and scale.

“Although Treasury has taken some steps toward improving transparency in TARP programs, it has repeatedly failed to adopt recommendations that SIGTARP believes are essential to providing basic transparency and fulfill Treasury’s stated commitment to implement TARP with the highest degree of accountability and transparency possible,” Barofsky says in the report.

    Castle versus the Birther

Delaware GOP congressman Rep. Mike Castle made it on the Drudge Report today, but it’s not the kind of publicity the Senate recruit was looking for.

At a recent town hall meeting, Castle was confronted by a woman, birth certificate in hand, who unleashed an angry stemwinder about why she believes President Obama is not a legal citizen of the United States.

Many members of the audience applaud her remarks, leading Castle to diplomatically insist: “If you’re referring to the president, then he is a citizen of the United States.”

That didn’t play well with the crowd, who start booing and hissing. Castle responds: “You can boo, but he is a citizen of the United States.”

Castle, one of the leading Republican moderates in the House, is considering a Senate campaign next year. But this is the kind of reception that could dissuade him from pursuing another race.

White House Puts Off Releasing US Budget Update

The White House is being forced to acknowledge the wide gap between its once-upbeat predictions about the U.S. economy and today’s bleak landscape.

The administration’s annual midsummer budget update is sure to show higher deficits and unemployment and slower growth than projected in President Barack Obama’s budget in February and update in May, and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.

The release of the update—scheduled for mid-July—has been put off until the middle of next month, giving rise to speculation the White House is delaying the bad news at least until Congress leaves town Aug. 7 on its summer recess.

The administration is pressing for votes before then on its $1 trillion health care initiative, which lawmakers are arguing over how to finance.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Monday blamed the delay entirely on the “transition from one administration to the next” and not from any attempt to deceive Congress.

“The notion that this is somehow out of the ordinary seems somewhat silly,” he told reporters.

The White House budget director, Peter Orszag, said on Sunday that the administration believes the “chances are high” of getting a health care bill by then. But new analyses showing runaway costs are jeopardizing Senate passage.

True story of the actual Obama team with Chrysler executives. Proof positive the Liberal Mind has no capacity for Common Sense.

To all my engineering and technical minded friends: This would be funny if it weren’t so alarming. (And even so, it’s still a little bit funny.)

(From a Senior Level Chrysler person)

Monday morning I attended a breakfast meeting where the speaker and guest was David E. Cole, Chairman Center for Automotive Research (CAR and Professor at the University of Michigan . You have all likely heard CAR quoted, or referred to in the auto industry news lately.

Mr. Cole, who is an engineer by training, told many stories of the difficulty of working with the folks that the Obama administration has sent to save the auto industry. There have been many meetings where a 30+ year experience automotive expert has to listen to a newcomer to the industry, someone with zero manufacturing experience, zero auto industry experience, zero business experience, zero finance experience, and zero engineering experience, tell them how to run their business.

Mr. Cole’s favorite story is as follows:

There was a team of Obama people speaking to Mr. Cole (Engineer, automotive experience 40+ years, and Chairman of CAR). They were explaining to Mr. Cole that the auto companies needed to make a car that was electric and/or run on liquid natural gas (LNG) with enough combined fuel to go 500 miles so we wouldn’t ‘need’ so many gas stations. (A whole other topic). They were quoting BTU’s of LNG and battery life that they had looked up on some internet website.

Mr. Cole explained that to do this you would need a trunk FULL of batteries and a LNG tank at big as a car to make that happen and that there were problems related to the laws of physics that prevented them from…

The Obama person interrupted and said (and I am quoting here)

“These laws of physics? Who’s rules are those, we need to change that. (Some of the others wrote down the name of the laws so they could look it up later.) We have the Congress and the Administration.. We can repeal that law, amend it, or use an executive order to get rid of that problem. That’s why we are here, to fix these sort of issues.”

I got a some really nice Obama t-shirts I can give you. All you got to do is put a dizzy smile on your face … act you you are going into a frenzy and say “You we can”. And they will put you on the front row. Oh & don’t forget to bring somebody black w/you to make it look convincing.

  218. arlenearmy says:

And if you get lucky to be put on front row or as part of the back drop, you raise your hand to ask a question. When Obama approaches you, you say as loud as you can “WHERE IS YOUR REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE”. Make sure you got a friend in the crowd to video this. Bring that video back to us here at wordpress to have it post it.

  219. samiam60 says:

Arlene you are too funny. I just hope the black panthers let me in. Of course I went to the white house web-site to request a ticket. Our local news network web-site was asking what question would you ask President Obama if given the chance. Its a public forum on that site. My question was:

President Obama, where is your birth certificate? It is in moderation right now and I am waiting to see if they post it. I am a sign painter so I may just hold up a Sign.

I just know this is not gonna go good for me if I get that ticket.

    Sometimes the unexpected happens.

I received an inauguaral letter (the embossed one). I never expected to get it & never knew how I was selected. I was an Obama supporter during the campaign.

I also went to TX to attend an Obama rally. I almost not got in. I started raising hell outside the gate telling his workers that I am a veteran & traveled all the way from Oklahoma. The Obama worker reached over the rope line & gave me a ticket to get in. So I hopped over the rope & ran up those stairs. The man told me that if I had my veteran shirt I could sit in the back drop behind Obama.

So you never know. But they wont let you in if someone standing in line snitches you out.

Wow been reading up on the Obama Czar gang, these guys are using our tax dollars to feed the mouths of the democratic party. The Czars sole purpose is to bypass congress, (not that it matters), and to implement policy with no “transparency”. They can do what ever they want with no accountability, and spend what ever you want to further there tentacles in the system, the weed is growing. The government is taking advantage when we are down, they are building the machine, to control the people. China is funding the cash for the Czar activity and are buying up our tbills in a big way, what this means is China is buying a large part of America at 20 cents on a dollar!! They hold trillions of our bonds, if this continues there will be no stopping global uniformity, or in other words “a social based government, where the ruling party owns the method of production and economy, then the workers that feed that machine. I think we are selling this administration short, they are very smart, and the way they are subjugating the Rule of Law, is by challenging the constitution, is that not treason?? We are in for some serious Chicago style politics, based from a very radical left principals, create havoc and capture, before the people know what hit them it will be too late. Sorry for the dower view, kind of tired, but very concerned, I do hope this message gets out, and is not seen as radical right, but the voice of the middle Republicrat, the independent, the voice of reason!

Where they used to beat the slaves and then they used to torture them. That’s where this beating started. These slave masters, and that’s where that come from. But, hey, there’s a lot of people in America, Larry, a lot of people in America spank their kids, you know? They say they don’t, they’re lying. They’re lying. Now, Michael was never beaten by me, I’ve never beaten at all.”

He is a racist crazy man and the media should stop giving him time.

Dog overboard and have a nice day friends-regardless of the fall of empire.

    Good Morning everyone!

Poll: Public losing trust in President Obama

Trust in President Barack Obama and his Democratic allies to identify the right solutions to problems facing the country has dropped off significantly since March, according to a new Public Strategies Inc./POLITICO poll.

Just as Obama intensifies his efforts to fulfill a campaign promise and reach an agreement with Congress on health care reform, the number of Americans who say they trust the president has fallen from 66 percent to 54 percent. At the same time, the percentage of those who say they do not trust the president has jumped from 31 to 42.

The president’s party has taken a similar hit since the last Public Trust Monitor poll, with only 42 percent of respondents saying that they trust the Democratic Party, compared with 52 percent who do not. The party’s numbers are nearly the inverse of March’s survey, in which 52 percent said they trusted Democrats and 42 percent did not.

Obama’s personal approval rating has fallen below 60 percent in a number of recent major polls, and according to a Washington Post/ABC News survey out Monday, support for the president’s leadership on several key issues has fallen below 50 percent.

But whatever the problems faced by Obama and his party, they still earn higher approval ratings than other Washington leaders or the Republican Party, according to the Public Trust Monitor poll. And the loss in trust in Democrats did not correspond with a gain for the GOP: Trust in Republicans fell from 40 percent in March to 36 percent in the recent survey.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin also took small hits in public trust, slipping to 24 percent from 26 percent and to 35 percent from 38 percent. Only 15 percent of respondents said they trust House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), while 32 percent said they trust former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a likely 2012 Republican presidential candidate, and 24 percent said they trust Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, one of the principal architects of the Obama administration’s economic policy.

The poll is based on 1,000 online surveys of registered voters conducted July 9-12 by Public Strategies Inc., a public relations and business advisory firm based in Austin, Texas, in conjunction with POLITICO, and has a 3.1 percentage point margin of error.

Along with Obama’s declining personal numbers, there were other signs in the poll of potential problems for his administration and agenda. Only 44 percent of those polled said the federal government is headed on the right track. In March, only a few months into Obama’s presidency, 54 percent said the federal government was on the right track, up 19 percentage points from the closing days of the Bush administration in December. Meanwhile, trust in the federal government has dropped from 63 percent to 58 percent since March, while trust that it will manage its finances responsibly has fallen from 40 percent to 32 percent during that time.

Just as faith in the president has slipped since March, so, too, has trust in much of his agenda.

The number of respondents who think the $787 billion federal stimulus package will have a positive impact on the nation’s economy has dropped from 56 percent to 45 percent. The percentage of those who think the stimulus will have a negative impact has remained steady at just more than a quarter of those polled, but the number of those who think the stimulus will have no impact on the economy has jumped from 18 percent to 28 percent.

When looking at their own lives, respondents were even less positive about the stimulus. More than half, 56 percent, said the $787 billion package will have no impact on their life, up from 45 percent. Only 22 percent think the stimulus will have a positive impact on them, down from 36 percent in March; 23 percent think it will have a negative impact, up slightly from 20 percent.

Gingrich Criticizes Defense Policies, Says Country Is on ‘Edge of Catastrophe’

In a speech full of dire scenarios and gloomy predictions, the former House speaker argues that no price is too high for the federal government to pay when it comes to shoring up national security.
    By Lee Ross

Government leaders are not adequately protecting America and are setting the country on a course toward catastrophe if national security policy is not dramatically changed, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Monday.

In a speech full of dire scenarios and gloomy predictions, the former House speaker argued that no price is too high for the federal government to pay when it comes to shoring up national security.

“We are living at the edge of catastrophe,” Gingrich said while laying out the flaws of the current governmental approach to security as well as his own framework for policy change.

Gingrich said the current defense budgetary approach in Washington is designed to meet an arbitrary budget goal and that over the years the government has failed to “translate the imagination (of potential attacks) into public policy.”

He said terrorist attacks such as those on Sept. 11 were not inconceivable but were inadequately prepared for by a timid federal bureaucracy.

Gingrich’s speech in front of several hundred people at the conservative Heritage Foundation is part of a ongoing program from the think tank called “America at Risk” advocating the government reverse budget cuts in national security programs.

“Our goals are straightforward for the country — safety, prosperity and freedom,” Gingrich said, while observing that lawmakers of both parties often fail in pushing public policies achieving those goals. “I find it very disturbing that (seven years after the Sept. 11 attacks) nobody is demanding a fundamental altering of the war strategy.”

The dour speech went through scenarios in which the United States could be attacked by its enemies and how, in anticipation of these attacks, the country should aggressively pursue policies to mitigate the chances of a successful strike.

Gingrich said that if the current policy structure holds for the next 20 years the country will be fundamentally incapable of quickly producing military assets needed to respond to an immediate threat.

Among other programs, Gingrich advocated the creation of a real-time response system at the Pentagon to immediately begin counter-measures to address threats as they become known. He said quick bureaucratic reaction will be necessary in the coming years.

Key House Panel Cancels Health Care Session, as Moderate Democrats Voice Concerns
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is stacked with fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats, who have voiced serious concerns about the details of the House package.

A key House committee on Tuesday indefinitely postponed voting on health care reform legislation, after Democratic leaders were unable to line up enough votes from moderate members of their own party.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee canceled the session as it faced serious concerns about the legislation from fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats, who hold a large number of seats on the panel. The Energy and Commerce Committee is the only House panel with jurisdiction over health care that has not completed writing its version of the reform bill.

President Obama plans to meet with those Democrats Tuesday.

“We have ongoing discussions with members,” committee Chairman Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., said in a brief statement announcing that the markup set for Tuesday had been canceled. “I think we’re making good progress, and I want to pursue those discussions further.”

A markup is where the committee essentially writes the bill, going through it line-by-line and accepting or rejecting amendments.

The two other House committees with jurisdiction over health care legislation approved their versions of the package last week.

lol sami. I am indeed running for the hills today. It is my birthday and I am going tubing on the Kettle River, up near the Canadian border. I will be on the lookout for border patrol who may think we tubed down from Canada and are smuggling in parts or communist literature or bc bud or other contraband. heehee

It has been in the mid 90’s for days and no end in sight. vf, sorry to hear that you are having rain. My house is cool because I have giant trees in my yard on the sw side. I try to stay out of the sun, unless I am on the water.

I took a break from politics yesterday and I think it is good for me. Today I am wanting to look into why we are adding additional military troops when we should be reducing them. Of course I know some of you are in agreement that we should spare no expense when it comes to defense but I would argue whether it is worth the cost. I’m all for protecting our borders from terrorism, but trying to rout it out in Afghanistan seems like trying to find a four leaf clover in a poppy field. And that is assuming they don’t normally have clover growing in poppy fields. I think the more we find our targets the more we will incite new cells to form. Especially when innocent victims are caught in the crossfire. Doesn’t it just make sense that it would cause resentment?

okay, enough. sorry to write on so. bye.
