Neutral Grey Stepwedges For Download |
The following grey scales are intended as an aid to visually setting up the brightness and contrast of your monitor. Please read the VIP notice below. Thanks. I hope you find this useful. Conditions of use |
The Greyscale step wedges below are mathematically created to be, as near as makes no difference, equal steps of grey from solid black to pure white. (#000000 to #FFFFFF, RGB 0,0,0 to 255,255,255) The background of this page is mid grey. (#808080 - RGB: 128,128,128) The grey scales are not converted to "web safe" nearest or dithered tones. As such, your browser may render the tones slightly differently. This difference might possibly lead to screen false settings. To get an accurate rendition, you will need to view the gifs in a proper graphics application such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Fireworks, Coreldraw etc. I have given the Image File Name for each of the 4 step wedges.
Note the optical illusion: each of the segments appear to be slightly 'scalloped' or 'dished'. In reality they are not. It is purely an optical illusion! Set your contrast and brightness until
you can clearly define 16 or 8 step changes in grey. Pay particular
attention to the pure black and the next one to it's right. |
I have compressed all 4 images
shown below into: |
16 equal steps from solid black to pure white stepwedge_16.gif |
16 equal steps from solid black to pure white with a 256 step gradient stepwedge_16_and_gradient.gif |
8 equal steps from solid black to pure white stepwedge_8.gif |
