Ford Sierra XR4x4 2.8 Supercharged

Just for a Laugh
Photo Gallery for Ross's XR4x4

F200 BEC (Becky for obvious reasons) was built at Genk, West Germany in April 1988, and originally ordered as 1 of 8 cars for the Cumbria and Durham Police, to come with Koni suspension all round, Power Engineering Supercharger conversion, K&N air filter, steel braided brake lines, close ratio gear box, short shift gear stick, RS 4 spoke steering wheel and wood effect trim to the door tops, ashtrays, gear knob and dash panel, and a little blue Sprintex badge as the only outward sign of anything different under hood. (Oh to be a copper in the late 80's.) Unfortunately Becky was unwanted by her intended owners and they only took 6 of the cars. The car was then sold in August of 88, at a value of £27,000 to a local Cumbrian man, who then used her as his weekend toy up until 93. He then locked her away until 2002, when it was found and rescued from the garage in which she was entombed. The lock apparently had to be cut off as the keys were missing and the door promptly fell off (it had been nearly 10 years since it was last opened).

By this time in its life the car had covered only 22,000 miles as was good as new. A quick mot revealed only new steering gaiters were required and was soon back on the road in all her glory. This is where I step into the picture. Having seen her advertised through the owners club I took a trip up the M6 from Brum, to be smitten and return a week later brandishing the cash for my new toy, and at the same time giving my girlfriend at the time her first motorway lesson. She never fully forgave me for that.

Since then I've had loads of fun, toying with newer more expensive models, all of whom seem a bit put out to be given a run for their money by an old sierra. In addition I've treated her to a full mongoose system, only as the standard one was blowing, a 4 paddle clutch (as it ate the previous standard one), and a set of 17" RS 7 spokes, and we've attended (along with my partner in crime - Tommy) most of the shows this year, and shall continue you to do so for the foreseeable future.

What else is on the cards?
Well only the usual wish list. Smaller front pulley (more boost), reworked heads, larger bottom end (I still say 3.4 litre bottom end is going to hold), and I'm sure we'll beat Gengis in the end. Now where did I put that cheque book?
