Is this even a question? Why are other schools even competing against Western? Don’t even think about it. But who knows, it’s one of the seven wonders of the world. Western Canada High School isn’t just any ordinary school. It’s THE Western Canada High School. The “it” school. Any Redman who is asked, “what school do you go to?” always responds with pride and respect, “Western.” No questions asked.
Here are the main high lights our prestigious school has to boast about. It doesn’t even cover half of what Western offers.
- A high academic average overall
- We have the best teachers employed, especially in our strong math and science departments
- It’s directly on uptown 17th Avenue, close to downtown, great location
- An infinite amount of championships decorating our gym and hallways top to bottom
- Our athletic program is renowned for it’s competitiveness, respect, and skill
- With over 2,000 friendly Redman students, it is a very cultural school with many different ethnicities and religions
- Students are still applying to get into Western and are wait-listed up until now
- Offers Honours and International Baccalaureate Programs (English and French)
- Bilingual school; French Immersion and Spanish including the International Certificate
- Our hand-selected leadership program is top notch and contributes a lot, especially school spirit
- There is a place for everyone because of various clubs, sport teams, drama, and choir that is offered
- Anyone can fit in; you’re bound to find a good group of friends when there’s so many new people you meet everyday
- Because of our large student population, we have less cliques and popularity contests than the average high school
- There is a massive parking lot behind Western, for free!
- Intramurals: Dodgeball week, Western week, and Halloween week
- We even have a new cheer team to raise our school spirits and encourage our team players!
- Offers Extensive Fine Arts opportunities in Drama, Art, Choral, Jazz, and Concert band including the CBE Fine Arts Ceritificate
- Even though Western isn’t exactly #1 in academics (it’s still one of the top), our student body and teachers are what defines our school best
- Every student is very patriotic about going to Western and is proud of it
- We offer a work experience program where counselors help us find useful jobs related to what we’re looking into for post secondary school
- It’s been rumored that Western is possibly haunted by ghosts at night, which I wouldn’t doubt considering it was built in 1903 and survived both world wars… How exciting!

Not to mention the Legendary Bill Tran attends Western too. So that’s a major plus.
Really good post! While I’m not off to high school yet, Western is really amazing! However based on IB area, I must go off to Henry Wise Wood.
From what I know about it, it should be a close contender with Western!
Aside from that, do students from Western, like Wise, also end up at places like Stanford, the Ivy League and Oxford?
But with no doubt, Western is not only one of Calgary, but also one of Canada’s, greatest high schools!
Hi! This was a really interesting post, lots of information! I’m going to be going there next year! See you there? Do you do IB? Because I feel like it will be quite tough and wanted to do AP for a long time, but then I would have gone to Ernest Manning. I’m really excited for next year though!!!
