This weekend Leeds hosted the World Curry Festival, an event run in conjunction with Welcome to Yorkshire.

The event was intended to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the first Indian restaurant opening in Britain and to emphasise how important curry has become to our culture and economy.

Under the cover of a huge tent on Millennium Square, festival attendees got the opportunity to watch cookery demonstrations from top chefs including Jean Christophe Novelli and to browse stalls selling Asian street food and various curry related products, from spice mixes to pickle trays.

Being showcased at the festival was a brand new Celebrity Cook Book with 60 recipes submitted by well-known faces including Gary Lineker and Prime Minister David Cameron.

Profits from the book will be donated to the Prince's Trust. All of the recipes in the book have been tried and tested by catering students from the Leeds City College. The finished dishes were then photographed to illustrate the book.

The Celebrity Cook Book will be available to buy from Monday 4 October.

Katie Bolton is a Leeds-based food blogger who runs the popular Leeds Grub blog.
