The working week ends on a chilly note in many regions and with low pressure not too far away then further showers are expected to develop today. The weekend sees further showers on Saturday before low pressure pushes north on Sunday bringing some heavy rain in places before temperatures start to recover somewhat.
Back to this morning and there's a fairly widespread frost across rural parts of central and northern Britain where skies cleared overnight with temperatures in some spots having dropped to as low as -4°C. It's slightly less cold around coasts and towards the south of the country where there is more cloud, the cloud bringing showers to northern and eastern coastal regions whilst for parts of the south and southwest there is some rain and drizzle. As we go through the day a good scattering of showers will break out more widely, but not everywhere will catch them with some places staying mainly dry and bright. However, some of the showers could be locally quite heavy, especially towards parts of southwest England this afternoon where some heavy downpours could develop. After that cold start it will be another rather cool day for many regions with maximums ranging from 7°C to 10°C in the north and east to highs of 12°C or 13°C towards the south and southwest of the country.
Showery rain will extend to many other southern counties of England and Wales as we go through tonight but this will help hold temperatures. Meanwhile, further north and showers will ease back to windward coasts with clear spells develop which will again allow a frost to form. Tomorrow sees outbreaks of rain in the south edging further north, breaking up as it does so, leaving many regions with a mixture of bright spells and scattered showers.
