Newcastle Falcons will kick off the 2019/20 season with three matches in the RFU Championship Cup, as fixtures for the forthcoming campaign have been confirmed.

Beginning on the weekend of September 20/21/22, the Falcons take up a position in pool two of the competition alongside Doncaster Knights, Hartpury RFC and Jersey Reds and will start away to the Channel Islanders.

Round two will see the Knights welcomed to Kingston Park with the first block of cup action closing with a trip to Hartpury.

The Greene King IPA Championship season gets underway over the weekend of October 11/12/13 with the Falcons on the road, London Scottish the destination.

It starts a block of six fixtures in the Championship, with the first action at Kingston Park coming against Hartpury in round two (weekend of October 18/19/20) ahead of one of the longest away trips in English rugby to Cornish Pirates the following week.

Home games against Jersey and Coventry sandwich the trip to Bedford, before the second batch of cup matches kick in at the end of November and early December.

The Falcons will be on the road over the festive period to last season’s Championship runners up Ealing Trailfinders. The fixture can be played either the weekend before or after Christmas which is still to be confirmed. The next home game for the Falcons will be against Doncaster over the weekend of January 10/11/12.

A first meeting of the season against Yorkshire Carnegie follows at Headingley in a pair of away fixtures which will also take the team to Nottingham. Newly promoted Ampthill then travel to the north east as the season hits the half-way stage.

Heading into the last vestiges of winter, the Falcons will make their second visit of the season to Jersey on February 27/28 or March 1. The club is set to run an official away trip for supporters to enjoy the Channel Island.

Full details of the trip, including prices, will be announced in the near future with supporters interested in booking able to register their interest [**here**][1].

A twelve-game block of Championship action, punctuated only by the first knock out stage of the Championship Cup, closes at home to Yorkshire Carnegie in April. The semi-finals are then held, after which the final three games of the league season will see the Falcons at home twice.

Nottingham and London Scottish will be the opposition, the season is complete with the exiles on the weekend of May 8/9/10, with the final away game of the season taking the team to Ampthill in the penultimate round.

Reacting to the opening rounds in both competitions, director of rugby Dean Richards said, “The cup game against Jersey will be interesting, there is obviously the logistics of getting there which is a bit different for us than most and then the London Scottish game.

“They aren’t an easy side to play against, I’ve played down there loads of times as a player myself. It’s a good pitch and a good venue so we’re looking forward to both matches as they give us a really good understanding as to where we are.

“Ealing away will be quite interesting as will Jersey in March which there will obviously be a lot of interest from our supporters to go over.”

Greene King IPA championship chairman Geoff Irvine commenting on the new season said: “We’re delighted to welcome Newcastle Falcons and Ampthill to the 11th season of the Greene King IPA Championship.

“The Championship continues to thrive and we look forward to another highly competitive season starting in two months’ time.”

RFU director of professional rugby Nigel Melville added: “We’re all looking forward to the upcoming season and the fixtures comings out will provide a focus for clubs as they start to prepare for their first games.

“Last season produced some fantastic performances and we’re all looking forward to more great rugby next season,” added Melville.
