    • July 20 1969 (USA time), afternoon, all the high school went to the auditorium, on stage, a single, small screen CRT black and white TV. I was 14, my class was two-thirds back from the front, so not a great view. But I DID see Neil come down the ladder and step off. (By the way, that tv feed came from the Moon via the Parkes radio telescope, with I think it was Honeysuckle Creek, near Canberra as the NASA groundstation (USA stations were on other side of Earth, as Neil (as the commander, it was his call) elected to not sleep but 'go early' with the EVA (they were too hyped up to sleep, he and Buzz just wanted to get out there, which annoyed the US tv networks, as it was all planned for their prime time). The movie, 'The Dish' is about that event, whilst a slightly comedic happy story movie, the main events are correct, including the wind storm that had winds near the dish's operational limits. A lovely movie starring Sam Niell (who is a Kiwi, NZ). (The 'lost the spacecraft' part wasn't true.)  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dish
    • Rupert said "There are millions of interesting things going on in our world and in other worlds if people would just put their phones down and look around a few minutes every day!". Yes indeed, I fired up my old 1970s ham radio rig the other night (it went through the flood, haven't cleaned it out yet, but very dry, now 2 years later, receive on 3.5 and 7 Mhz works fine, but the LSB USB CW switch is dodgy, no USB), and wow, conditions were good, on 7 Mhz (40 meter band), lots of local Aussies, one had a CQ contact to NZ. So, inspired me to get to the 'rig' and get it working properly. I thought amateur radio had died a lot, even though there are active clubs including in my local area, but the Internet put paid to it. Not so, still very active groups, mostly old guys, but shock horror, now I'm an old guy! (My callsign was VK2MDO, back in the 1990s I had a number of good contacts around the world, including into Japan, and USA. I did spend 5 months I think it was living in Japan in 93 and was one of the few Westerners to obtain a Japanese callsign. Ah, the memories, I keep forgetting about all my exploits.
    • Clearly there's evolving two seperate event scenarios: helicopter, airship. Someday (not soon, I would like to participate but sim broken at the moment) we should organise (not me!) a helicopter-only event, and a separate airship-only event. Both would be fun.
    • I am using PF3: https://www.oncourse-software.co.uk/pf3_details.htm .   John
    • Try freewarescenery.com.   Go to the FSX section, click on U, scroll down to United Kingdom and look through what they have.   Also PCPilots of Ireland used to have a great website, so you could try there.   Good Luck.
    • Dont worry too much about the number of frames. I've locked mine at about 30fps, and all my settings are on hi/full.  As long as things run smoothly.
    • Many thanks! I've always run Nine in Fullscreen mode but with this recent HP laptop things like the GPS flicker occasionally 1.9 gig AMD processor with 1 gig GPU. So I've been using Windowed mode lately and things have been much better. 20 fps in Fullscreen but 30 in Windowed.
    • I run them both in Windowed Mode. Just a habit of mine. No issues or problems at all.  My FS9 is about 140GB & I run 9 & GW (also P3Dv4.5) off a portable 2TB drive. No lagging at all. I'm using an Asus laptop, Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 7, 16GB ram, 500GB SSD & that 2TB portable drive.
    • wobbie do you run Nine and GW in Fullscreen or Windowed Mode? 🙂
    • ... in the web browser of your choice! Prices are in estimated USD only, but all the other features are there: https://msfsmarket.place/
    • Have a look here for the 9.1 update: Flight Simulator 2004 Update v9.1 (flyawaysimulation.com)   The 9.1 NO-CD Patch: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 v9.1 No-CD Patch for FS2004 (flyawaysimulation.com)   Note that if you do not use the 9.1 UPDATE, there is also a No-CD patch for an non updated FS2004. It's pretty much essential to have these for the sim.
    • The 9.1 patch is like a service pack for FS2004, & corrects a couple of things. (hence it's called 9.1) The 9.1 crack lets you use Fs2004 without the 4th CD in the drive.
    • Hi defaid,   Your remark that you have locked your FPS at 60 in order to match that of your monitor has suddenly got me sitting upright and wide awake because as far as I know the standard FPS of any monitor (or TV set) is directly steered by the AC frequency. Therefore 60 Hz in the USA and 50 Hz in Europe.   My monitor (= a Panasonic 60Hz. TV set), which is therefore most probably a USA version, while my European AC power supply is 50Hz. ....... and all that while I'm supplying it with an FS9 maximum output of 30Hz ??? However, you are completely correct in saying that the FPS supplied by FS9 can vary strongly dependant on load etc. so, why everything in that hardware area keeps working correctly remains a mystery, at least to me. It may have something to do with a HDMI (type) connection, which seems to override evrything related to AC/FPS frequencies.   Tomorrow I'm now going to set my maximum FS9 FPS at 60 to see what happens and then at 50 but my expectations are not high because 30 FPS has seemingly already worked problem free for years in my setup.   Anyway, a very interesting thread indeed and ....... Long Live FS9 !!   Hans
    • By the way, can someone tell me what the 9.1 patch actually does?
    • What you guys are saying is all absolutely correct.  In the real airport, landings are always on the ILS to 02 and take-offs are always on 24, although heavier aircraft can request landing on the ILS for 06 which apparently has a higher load-bearing capability.  Even with the star technique, ATC don't play game....  What ATC system are you using, John, which allows you to close runways? Mike
