Situated in the ancient Cathedral City of Wells in the southwest of England, St Cuthberts Mill has been making paper since the 1700's, taking advantage of the pure waters of the River Axe.

St Cuthberts Mill based in Somerset, England specialises in the paper manufacturing of high quality artists papers. Our experienced papermakers carefully make professional mould made papers, using one of the few remaining cylinder mould machines left in the world.

We produce papers that are designed for all your creative needs. Highly recommended by both amateur and professional creatives, our papers appeal to artists for their purity and distinction.

Our papers performance is of the greatest significance whether it is for watercolours, printmaking or inkjet use. An innovative and dedicated approach is key to our archival papers reaching you in impeccable condition.

We develop a wide range of papers that can be used with a variety of art materials. Our Watercolour papers (Bockingford, Saunders Waterford, Millford) can withstand a vast amount of layering of paints and water. They are suitable for watercolour, gouache, acrylics, graphite, pastels, etc.

Our Printmaking papers (Somerset) are rated extremely highly, and printmakers use them for letterpress, screen printing, lino printing, etching, and other techniques. All these processes are enhanced by our Somerset paper’s distinct strength and quality.

Digital inkjet/giclee printing has become a method of re-creating original works, but also for incorporating mixed media pieces of art. The papers we produce for this (Bockingford Inkjet, Somerset Photo, Somerset Enhanced) are coated to enhance the colour vibrancy of a composition/image and produce tones which are clear, concise and the colour is exceptional.
