My face.Tan, Jon (b. 1973) British‑Singaporean designer and typographer.

Chief Designer at Matter working on the neuroscience of happiness. I lead teams making durable, inclusive, and aesthetic design for screens, hands, and paper. I’ve helped organisations of all sizes, from start-ups to behemoths like the BBC and National Geographic.

My work and prose has featured in publications such as I Love Typography, Typographica, TYPE magazine, .Net magazine, 24 Ways, 8 Faces, CSS Zen Garden, and in books such as Hardboiled Web Design (Five Simple Steps), Fluid Web Typography (New Riders), The Principles Of Beautiful Web Design (SitePoint), The Manual, and the first Smashing Book.

I’ve also been fortunate to be invited to speak at dozens of conferences such as South by South West, OSCON, An Event Apart, Beyond Tellerand, Future of Web Design, and Ampersand.

In 2005, I was the first designer to be accepted into the International Society of Typographic Designers based on work for the screen alone. In 2009, I founded Fontdeck, the web fonts service that brought some of the world’s best typefaces to the web for the very first time, and inspired some of the world’s best type designers to do the same. In 2010, I started Mild Bunch, the oldest co-working space in Bristol, where I still work today.

Formerly, I was a Partner at Analog and Fictive Kin, Chief Creative Officer at OmniTI, and founder of the tech co-operative, Grow Collective.
