Dedicated servers consist of a single computer which is solely used as a dedicated server utilized by a single user or organization under a single domain name. The server is kept in a secure area by the dedicated server hosting company.

The dedicated server system consists of an operating system such as Linux, a web server, required software, and Internet connections which are all kept within the secure facility. Dedicated servers hosting is preferable in situations where there is a large volume of traffic to a site which would otherwise cause a site to crash. The server can be customized by the client but is maintained at the secure site. Customers should be aware that, although the server is meant to provide support to the user, the dedicated server hosting is owned by the provider and not by the client.

Dedicated server web hosting is preferred by individuals or organizations that require increased information security and space. The required hardware can either be purchased or rented from the dedicated hosting server company and, in exchange, the company will be responsible for maintaining the server. The internet connection ranges somewhere between 10 to 100 Mb/s, with the locations where they are housed providing constant power sources along with a required HVAC system.

There are two different forms of dedicated server hosting plans – namely, managed and unmanaged hosting options. The unmanaged hosting service plan option consists of an operating system, hardware, web servers, and an Internet connection. In contrast, the managed hosting plan includes both these basic requirements as well as provides maintenance and service in all necessary areas. The only thing the user is responsible for is the content of the web site.
