The Avenue “Diner” was established in 1958 by Grover “Doddie” Thompson. Please feel free to take a look at the framed tribute to our Founding Father who now spends his winters in Arizona & summers in Gettysburg. The Original Home was built & occupied by the George Washington Grant Heagey family early in the past century. We enjoy meeting his Family, Grand and Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews and hear the stories they tell of the family & home the restaurant once was. The second story of the building remains intact to this day.

I am Tammy Keplinger Hughes and together with my youngest son Ryan Hughes we became the fourth owners of this fabulous eatery since 1958. Our History with The Avenue Restaurant began in the Spring of 1995 when my oldest son Brad Hughes began working for Frank Herring, the second owner of this great home-style restaurant. Brad's brother Ryan did a brief stint at a distributor of cleaning supplies, where he learned the ins and outs of janitorial maintenance - very valuable knowledge for any business serving the public. He was offered an executive position there, but the pull of a family enterprise was strong and Ryan joined his brother working at the Avenue the Summer of 1997. Mark Cropp was the owner during Ryan’s employment; Ryan served Mark with Great dedication during this time. Ryan and I purchased The Avenue Restaurant in May of 2005. With Ryan’s years at The Avenue and knowledge of the property as well as his expertise in cleaning products, and my extensive background in Store Management, we looked at ourselves as a matched set.

Our Staff about 35 of us all together bring with them Management, Cooking, Serving and Friendly Customer Service Skills that match our desire for fresh, quality foods as well as great leadership skills and a willingness to develop our staff and so begins a new generation.

My oldest son Brad joined the Military in 1998 and is currently still serving Our Country. Brad would say to me "Mom, We Are Happy To Be Here, Proud To Serve!" which became our Motto. We at The Avenue Look forward to Serving You! We are so very proud of our friendly, hard working staff, some family, some friends all “great” people with the desire to prepare the best quality food for you and to serve you with our friendly hometown kindness.

Great local diner.. and it definitely beats out the more popular Lincoln Diner in Gettysburg by far. Very clean, nice servers and great/fast service to go along with it.

My friend and I stopped in for lunch, we both had a tuna melt with fries. Our food was really good.. no complaints here! We were really happy with our experience. Probably the cleanest diner I have ever been in.. it was a nice change :)

Good down home cookin' I always love going here on my visits to Gettysburg. I wouldn't recommend for a romantic dinner, but definitely a good place to eat, breakfast lunch and dinner (casual)

Unless you like the flavor of tasteless cardboard save yourself the indigestion.
We landed here only because it was across from our hotel. Once was enough to know we are not returning.

This place is scary.  The first place they sat us the table and floor was filthy.  The second table was fine at first until something started dripping from the ceiling on my daughter plate.  We finally moved to a suitable table but when I looked up to check the ceiling there was mold growing on the ceiling tiles.  Food wasn't great either.  Stay away.

The dinner was very good with large portions.  The fries were excellent while the other sides were average.  The entrees were very good and very big.  They also have great milkshakes after a hot summer day in Gettysburg.
The service was friendly and fast.  A very good dining experience.

Another great breakfast.  This is my go to breakfast place when ever I get to be in Gettysburg for a few days.  This is just plain good old dinner food.  The waitresses are friendly and amazingly remember you after just a couple of visits and even after six months of not making down.
Really is a good place to fuel up before heading out for a long day on the Battlefield.

Still going strong. The Locals go here for good reason. Good food. Good prices. Not fancy, but well done. Tried the turkey, open hot beef sandwich, soup, pie. All good.
