The relatives of the murdered man have been informed and a post-mortem examination is due to be held on Monday.

The man's identity has not yet been made public.

A friend of the victim, who gave his name only as Leon and visited the scene to lay a bouquet, said: "He was just a humble person who loved life.

"I'm really shocked by what's happened."

Det Ch Insp John Crossley said he was particularly appealing for those with businesses in the area to contact the police with any information they might have about the shooting.

He said: "It is essential that we view any CCTV as soon as possible to see if anything of use to the inquiry can be gleaned."

The suspect is believed to have fled in the direction of Leather Lane, police said.
