It’s wonderful to be Olympic champion after such injury worries during the spring. The Achilles tendon I tore in February took a little while to repair and I missed the first three races of the season. However, I felt okay when I got back competing again and it was a massive relief to remain injury- free throughout my preparation for London. There was a sort of emotional stress about the build-up, probably brought on in part by the injury worries I had.But I don’t feel as bad now afterwards as I thought I would.Having said that, I am going to enjoy the moment and have a big holiday at some point. The last few months my brother Jonny and I had a plan, which was to be away from some of the hype at our training camp in St Moritz. That worked out well and now both me and Jonny have won an Olympic medal we will stop and take a breath.Basically, since the race we haven’t stopped and there’s been no time to lick our wounds.

It was a wonderful thing to be able to get to the finish line – knowing I was well clear of Javier Gomez,  the Spaniard who won silver – and walk over the line holding the Union flag aloft. The weather here can be deceptively hot and, as shown by Jonny’s collapse at the end, it can be very draining. It’ll be strange for me now as Jonny is moving out of my house in Bramhope and has bought his own place. He’s never done much housework or DIY so he will have to learn fast! But his house is only about 500 metres from mine, so he’s not going far.
