Knitting honour for Graham Norton
Comedian Graham Norton has received a surprise New Year honour after being made a special member of a rural knitting circle.
The Sherborne and District Knitting Club, in Dorset, first featured on Channel 4's V Graham Norton show last summer after sending in a selection of knitted wedding cakes. They then sent him a knitted chocolate cake hat and the show's producers asked the club if they could knit Mr Norton a special festive reindeer suit for his Christmas show. They obliged and club member Pat Ivins said Mr Norton seemed "thrilled" with the result.
The outfit took Mrs Ivins and two other club members an afternoon to make on their knitting machines. Mrs Ivins told BBC News Online: "It looked very good on him actually - it fitted very well. "We were very pleased with the result and he was very nice about it on the show. "We have decided to make him an honourary member because of the interest he has created in our club." She added: "We want to bring machine knitting to people's attention as it has been on the decline over the last few years." The club has 34 members, including Mr Norton.
