We are deeply saddened to share that Sanjiv, our almost 13-year-old male Sumatran tiger, was humanely euthanized over the weekend after a sharp decline in health. Sanjiv had been experiencing pronounced discomfort secondary to spinal disease. Despite receiving a variety of pain medications, including an epidural, which provided temporary relief, and supportive care, including laser therapy and acupuncture, he continued to show signs of discomfort. In addition, he had developed a number of other health concerns, including renal disease, hypertension, and diabetes. Sanjiv was a magnificent ambassador for his species and a beloved figure among both staff and guests. Our heartfelt thoughts are with all who cared for him. He will be profoundly missed.

Pupdate! 🐺 We're thrilled that the five critically endangered American Red Wolf pups born at our off-site facility continue to thrive. These curious little ones, now six weeks old, are exploring more outside their den under the watchful eye of their mom. The litter, consisting of three males and two females, marks another milestone in our efforts to revive the only wolf species native to the United States. With just 20-22 Red Wolves left in the wild in eastern North Carolina, our commitment to their recovery is unwavering. The pups are not howling yet, but you can hear the Red Wolf howls in the background from the adult wolf packs.
