Family-run roofing company, building on over 100 years of traditional roofing expertise

Our family has been in the roofing business since 1910, and even though a lot has changed since then, we use knowledge that’s been passed down from generation to generation to deliver exceptional roofing services throughout Kent and the surrounding areas.

Way back when there was just a couple of us, but in recent years we’ve introduced a training scheme that has allowed us to impart knowledge to the next generation of professional roofers, including apprentices in the local area with a passion for the trade and heritage skills.

Types of Roofs and Services

At Ashford & Cranbrook, we work on all kinds of roofs, including oasts and barns, slate, cedar shingles, and even ecclesiastical, or church roofs. Our experience of traditional roofing is second to none, which makes us well placed to work on period heritage properties and listed buildings.

Our roofing services span roof repairs to full roof replacement and renewal services.

See below to find out more about the different types of roofs we work on regularly.

Confederation of Roofing Contractors

We are members of the Confederation of Roofing Contractors (CORC), the premier roofing trade association in the UK. Membership of the CORC is not open to every roofing company, only those companies that meet the high standards set by the CORC are afforded membership.

Our customers have peace of mind knowing that they are dealing with a company that has been strictly vetted and have met the criteria that sets us apart from other roofing companies.

Competent Roofer Scheme

Roofer is the prime Government approved scheme for England and Wales that legally allows professional roofing contractors to self-certify for Building Regulations for refurbishment roofing work. This encompasses all roofing types for domestic, industrial, and commercial properties and the scheme is open to all roofing contractors to apply.

Many jobs undertaken need to be notified to and authorised by Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and in many cases this includes work done to your roof. By using a Competent Roofer member, property owners will save not only time and money but will have the added reassurance that the work carried out meets the exacting standards of Building Regulations.

Our Green Promise

We are committed to minimising the impact of our activities on the environment, which we do successfully by:

  • Minimising waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible
  • Using our fleet of vehicles efficiently to minimise logistical transport operations
  • Actively promoting recycling both internally and amongst our customers and suppliers
  • Sourcing and promoting a product range to minimise the environmental impact of operations, including using reclaimed products

If you are considering a new roof but have any concerns about sustainability, please give us a call. We are happy to answer any questions.

Safe Working is Our Priority

Health & Safety is an important issue for us and one that continues to be monitored and improved.

Our team complete regular top-up training and every project is subject to a risk assessment and health and safety plans as required to ensure compliance with current law.

Need help with your listed building consent?

If you live in a conservation area or your property is listed, it is likely that you will need listed building or conservation consent for your proposed works. This may not be the case if the proposed works are repairs and maintenance but call your local authority conservation office to confirm.

We can help you with sourcing drawings or alternatives should the need arise, and we can prepare your ‘Design and Access statement’ as requested by many local authorities for the simplest of listed building roof works.

Self-build assistance and design

If you are looking to self-build, we can help with choice of roof covering.

The choice of roof covering is often just as a matter of aesthetic appeal or in-keeping with the local style, but practicality and ease of installation are also a consideration.

Together with pricing your works we can help with your choice of materials and colours.

Whether you are after natural or man-made slate, handmade clay tiles, machine made tiles or interlocking profiles, we are on hand to assist.
