Today
in The
Lowdown:
At the beginning of this year Buckley
Media Founder and star domain broker Kate Buckley revealed she, in
tandem with new partner Todd Henderson, were combining their resources to
create a new all encompassing branding agency at Defining.com. That
partnership has already paid off with several high end transactions, including
one above $300,000 that we can share with you.
Also
inside: There was no doubt about what domain would be topping our
latest bi-weekly domain sales chart after
George Kirikos reported the eye-popping $8.5 million+ paid for
Gold.com. We'll tell you how many pounds of gold that figure would buy and
detail the latest wave of .ai domains that swept half of the top ten
entries.

Hitting the Highest Notes

broker and advisor Andrew Miller has been hitting home runs for over
25 years now. His sales, individually or with key partners, have included
Chat.com at $15.5 million, Beer.com at $7
million, InsuranceQuotes.com at $6.5 million, Diamond.com at $6 million, Shop.com at $3.5 million, CreditCards.com at
$3.5 million and Telephone.com at $2 million in cash + equity! All told, Miller
has been involved in over $600 million worth of domain sales in his
remarkable career. We wanted to find out what went into making it
all happen for him. A variety of people, events and influences play a
role in how anyone's life story turns out. The end result always gets the most
attention but to get the full picture, you have to start at the
beginning, so that's what we did with Andrew. Full

Bringing Hope Where It's Needed Most

Welcome
to the 10th edition of our annual State
of the Industry Cover Story. Every
January since 2005 we have assembled a
distinguished panel of experts drawn from
every corner of the industry-
including domain investors, developers,
top corporate leaders and attorneys
- to give us their thoughts on the key
trends of the past year and what they saw
coming our way in the new year ahead.
This year we
have put together our biggest panel ever, 17
of the industry' best and brightest, and
split them into two groups of eight each -
one comprised of investors &
developers and one of corporate
leaders. We will the extra spot with
an attorney who has a foot firmly planted
on each side of the line.

The
domain industry is fortunate to have a lot
of people who go out of their way to help
others, so it is especially gratifying
to see one of their own dreams be realized.
At the beginning of this year, that
happened for industry veteran Shaun
Wilkinson, whose vision of
opening a sorely needed high school for
children in Mombasa, Kenya became a
reality.
Shaun,
who first entered the industry with Sedo
in 2007, began this quest almost 15 years
ago when he went to continue to serve as a volunteer
teacher at a struggling new primary
school there. After helping the school get
established, he set his sites on creating
a secondary school where those kids
could afford to continue their education and
better their lives as well of those of their
families. With some help from his domain
industry friends, the dream has now come
true.

The
domain industry has lost one of its true
giants with the passing T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference
Co-Founder Howard Neu, a
pioneering domain attorney and one of
the key architects of the global
community our industry enjoys today. At
the same time, Howard's family lost a
devoted husband to wife Barbara (a
domain industry treasure in her own right),
a loving father to his daughters, a doting
grandfather with four grandchildren and an
over-the-moon great grandfather with two
great grandchildren.
Howard
was one of the most intelligent and multi-talented
people we've ever known. They say that cats
have nine lives but they had nothing
on Howard Neu who led professional
lives as an accountant, attorney, judge,
city councilman, mayor, TV host, actor,
singer, domain investor, conference producer
and community builder. That's 11 and
we've probably missed a few more.
Still, it's not the quantity that is so
impressive, it is the fact that he did
everything so well. Howard was a true
modern day Renaissance
Man.
