Demos’ Comes to the Shoals

The Shoals is in for a treat: Demos’ Restaurant (pronounced “dee-muss”) is coming! This Middle Tennessee family tradition will be a great addition to northwest Alabama dining. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., location — the original of now four restaurants and soon-to-be-five — is our go-to spot whenever my husband and I are in the ‘Boro, and that’s true for several Shoals folks when they head up that way. Demos’ is know for two things: Exemplary and prompt service and plenty of good family food with a Greek twist. It’s famous for its steak-and-spaghetti combos, too. Let’s hope all that transfers to Alabama. My favorite thing about Demos’ is that it’s one of those one-size-fits-all place– it’s good for quick workday lunches, Sunday dinners, family suppers and special nights out all at the same time. Plus, it’s one of the most popular restaurants in Murfreesboro. In fact, hanging out in the waiting area is a great way to catch up with ‘Boro news because sooner or later almost everybody in town is there. My family especially likes the stuffed potatoes (blackened chicken, seafood or chili), the lasagna and the chili spaghetti (my husband calls this Mexican spaghetti) The Florence restaurant is going up behind Books-A-Million and should be open early next year. Coming to Alabama is like returning home, the Demos’ family says in a press release, since the great-grandfather of company president Peter Demos first operated restaurants in Birmingham in the 1920s. 1. I must say, myself and my parents passed by the location today and I just now noticed it…I was seriously excited to see this because I ate at the one in Nashville twice in one day back around New Year’s and the food is VERY GOOD, especially for the price. The lunch specials are especially great deals, and the Fettucine Imperial is A-mazing.

  2. You are so right, Nicole. The food is very good at Demos’ and a great value for the price. The Shoals is going to be so glad when this restaurant opens!

  3. The Shoals area is about to be blessed with one of the finest restaurants there is. I am a resident of Murfreesboro where the first store is located. Our family has enjoyed every meal and experience. Their service, value and quality is outstanding. Thought the other day that we have eaten at Demos Restaurant at least every week for the past 8-10 years. That’s over 400 times! And we’ve NEVER had a bad meal but a great experience.

When my friend, John Maxwell, the prolific leadership author, came to Murfreesboro I wanted him to experience the finest – Demos Restaurant. He loved it.

Aside from that, the Demos family, Jim, Doris, Peter and Felicia are wonderful people. Get ready Florence. You’re in for a treat!

  4. You are so right, Phil. I’ve told everybody here they are going to love this restaurant. I so agree with you about the consistent quality — that’s one of the best things about Demos’. The Demos’ family commitment to customer service is legendary. Thanks for reading and weighing in.
