Innovations in Display Tech Bring Us Closer to the Digital World
New research highlights another option: photo-sensitive pixels. They can do far more than detect touch. They can image objects placed on a display, detect fingerprints, and even charge a device. Perovskites offer the prospect of a display medium that can serve multiple functionalities—including sensing and collecting ambient light energy. The display’s photosensitivity can also be used as a light sensor, to transfer data, or function as a PPG sensor to provide user health data.
A thin film that combines an electrode grid and LEDs can both track and produce a visual representation of the brain’s activity in real-time during surgery–a huge improvement over the current state of the art. The device is designed to provide neurosurgeons visual information about a patient’s brain to monitor brain states during surgical interventions to remove brain lesions including tumors and epileptic tissue.
Innolux has been awarded the Display Component Product Technology Award at Taiwan’s Gold Panel Awards 2024 (GPA 2024). The company was recognized for its development of two innovative technologies: the “seamless quantum dot color conversion (QDCC) AM-MicroLED display technology” and the “flexible low-reflectivity automotive MicroLED display technology.”
As the technology behind flexible screens advances, more and more uses are trickling out. Konica Minolta's flexible OLED lighting panel is finally coming into its own with the help of the financial tech industry, specifically Sentry Enterprises who runs the Radiance card illumination platform, adding OLED screens to credit cards that are powered by NFC terminals when transacting. That's right, your credit cards may soon contain flexible OLED screens that offer a light show when it comes time to pay for things.
Sony Professional Displays & Solutions has teamed up with integrated gesture control specialist Ameria to create a non-touch solution designed to work with any Sony professional display model. With no protective glass required, it is the only interactive solution that doesn’t compromise picture quality or Sony’s Deep Black Non-Glare coating. The integration of Ameria Touchfree Solutions covers all Sony professional displays, including the Bravia 4K range and the latest-generation Crystal LED screens.
Starting with brightness, these new TVs will supposedly offer up to 5,000 nits of brightness. Making them so insanely bright, you’ll likely dial this setting down a little for it not to be too much at night. However, if you have the TV installed in an irregularly bright room in your house (surrounded by windows) during the day, this added brightness could be quite helpful.
